Re: looking for advice on what kind of certified pre-owned cars I should look at? [Re: HB]

Anybody else have any comments to share on good cars to be looking at? So far it seems that imports are my best bet, with Honda topping the list, but I'd still like to have more opinions anyway ...

i have a 5 spd civic and personally would never buy an automatic. i cant stand driving automatics, the car cant anticipate what you can gear wise. i guess its just my preference, but also consider the fact that a manual trans will be cheaper and more reliable than an auto. if you are looking for a bigger car you might want to look at the accord, i have a 4dr civic and it does just fine, ive had to move several times with it and i can cram a good amount of stuff in it. a civic will be more maneuverable than an accord, but you will be able to carry more stuff in an accord.

ive also heard good things about toyota camrys as being very good reliable vehicles. maxima's are also really good cars, i had a really old maxima before it was a beast and had every feature you could imagine.

Thanks for the good info, and yes, I am almost certain I don't want another automatic car, no matter what I get. I live in Los Angeles, the city of traffic and bad drivers, but I still prefer to FEEL the car I'm driving and not watch the car shift, that is to say POORLY, on it's own ...

every automatic/ tiptronic/ CVT car I've leased have all had pretty significant, and regular, problems, especially when I started getting "sporty" ... it COULD have been some of the modding I've done, but honestly, everybody I've known with manual modded cars have had little to no problem when they take care of it, even when they rip the cars HARD ...

I have a 5 speed Civic, and I recommend it. I learned to drive stick on my Honda, and it actually took awhile for me to get good at it, but I never wish for an automatic anymore. The car is a '95 with 150k on it, and the only thing that's ever broken is the exhaust.

the Civic is looking better and better. the only negative review I've yet to find on it is from "theuser" and his two threads from last December saying how cheap and uncomfortable the car was after he test-drove it ... that I guess I will find out when I go for a test-drive ...

thanks for the help.

A test drive will answer your questions.

I remember theuser's post... he seemed to be looking for a higher-end car with more horsepower. The new Civics are 140 hp (Si model is 197 hp), seventh generation civics (up to 2005) are in the 120 hp range. Not a lot of pickup, but it's a light car and the gas mileage is outstanding.
