Jeezus H boys, you think I live here 24/7 just to respond?  I pop in this forum from time to time when I'm bored.  I spend what time I have available up in cultivation trying to help the new growers get started.  As soon as the snow melts around my cabin I'll be scarce indeed.

As for the NRA, they do more to turn the average joe who VOTES against guns, then to actually support our rights.  I 100% support our right to keep and bear arms, because the 2nd amendment writers realized we'd likely have to take our country back from authoritarian rulers some day.  That means we should be allowed to have the same weapons the military has, which is what the average person had when that amendment was added to the constitution.

I hate it when I see politicians talking about 'Uncle Joe's' old shotgun they still have when talking about gun rights.  How the hell are we going to take back the country with an old 12 guage?

No, I don't think the NRA deliberately tries to put guns in the hands of criminals.  However, by fighting background checks, that's the inevitable result, like it or not.  However, if the country was under attack, and my neighbor was a convicted felon, I'd damn sure give him one of my guns if he was going to be there in the trench with me.

Nor do I think the leaders of ACORN deliberately try to commit voter fraud.  I see no evidence of national involvement/conspiracy in the story from some blog you posted above, even if one were to take it at face value, which I'm sure you wouldn't do if it were posted on Michael Moore's website or The Nation, etc.

People really need to find common ground rather than calling anyone who disagrees 'stupid'.  I apologize for responding in kind above.

----------------------------

No, I don't think the NRA deliberately tries to put guns in the hands of criminals. Then you shouldn't have said it, for it is clearly not true.

"No, they just sue to give guns to convicted violent criminals.  The NRA is a fund raising organization devoted to the republican party and other right wing/white supremacist groups, and ACORN takes the other side." In case you forgot what you said.Still waiting for you to back up any of the claims in those sentences. Perhaps before you try you should be aware that the NRA sends out suggestions to its members showing recommendations based on the candidates voting records.... not political affiliation.

----------------------------

However, by fighting background checks, that's the inevitable result, like it or not. Care to back that up? I've only seen them object to how the checks are done and for how the Fed's retain the data. Educate me if you can. Show where the NRA has come out in favor of eliminating background checks.

Nor do I think the leaders of ACORN deliberately try to commit voter fraud.  Wow.

I'm in the middle of pressure cooking up a huge batch of grains right now, so not a whole lot of time to do your research for you, but a quick google search turned up these listings on the very first page.  Some are a few years old, but I really don't have time to spend a few hours trying to prove that the wheel is circular.

I tried to find one single place where the NRA ever campaigned against a Republican in favor of a Democrat, regardless of their respective stands on gun freedom, but was unable.  Perhaps you guys can and thus prove me mistaken.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/1999/05/22/national/main44724.shtml

http://www.citizen.org/congress/campaign/issues/paycheck/articles.cfm?ID=5299

And, in the link below,
Quote:
There aren't many lobbies that draw the level of both devotion and vitriol the NRA attracts. But the NRA has more than mere status in the nation's capital; it has a mystique. It has been credited - or blamed, depending on one's politics - for the Republican sweep of the House of Representatives in 1994, putting the GOP in control of the House for the first time in 40 years.

Quote:
The late Representative Mike Synar, Democrat of Oklahoma, was among the NRA's targets who were defeated in 1994, observers note. ''They really just went after him,'' said Larry Makinson of the Center for Responsive Politics, a Washington-based campaign-finance watchdog group.

Quote:
At a recent training seminar in Melbourne, eager members of the NRA rank and file were given their marching orders: Man the phones and pound the pavement to help out the campaign of Representative Dave Weldon, Republican of Florida.

http://graphics.boston.com/news/politics/campaign2000/news/NRA_power_in_elections_grows_as_ranks_swell+.shtml

Google returned over 50,000 hits like these, but I realize you guys already have your minds made up.  If you're interested, you can do your own searches.

My point above about the NRA is that I support the right to keep and bear arms 100%, but don't feel the NRA is the best support group, because of their affiliation with the radical Christian right-wing and the Republican party, regardless of their views on protecting our constitutional rights.

What this has to do with ACORN is beyond me.  I made the point above that IF the NRA got caught double registering voters or taking back foreclosed houses, the republicans wouldn't wink.  I wasn't making the accusation.  Please take a chill pill dudes, we're on the same side.  Partners can always get more done by working together, than infighting with like minds.

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/1999/05/22/national/main44724.shtml Ah. The long since debunked gun show loophole. You do realize that sales at a gun show are subject to the same laws as other gun sales? No? Huh.

http://www.citizen.org/congress/campaign/issues/paycheck/articles.cfm?ID=5299 The finance law is an unconstitutional joke. Why should they support it? You have heard of freedom of speech? Or do you truly believe it should be freedom of speech "sometimes"?

I repeat..... so what? If he was deemed unfriendly to gun owners he needed to be defeated.

If only those horrible criminals at ACORN hadn't registered so many voters named Mickey Mouse, Obama wouldn't have won the election by a landslide!

Apparently you've never voted.  Where I vote, there's poll watchers from both major parties, and if there's a third party candidate, they have a representative there too.  Together, they check voter cards against the printed database, and cross off my name when I vote.  I wonder what they'd think if I showed up with a voter ID card that said Mickey Mouse.

Do they have voter ID cards?  What state?  Neither NH nor NY has any voter ID cards and the ID requirements are negligable if there are any at all.

Still working on that landslide?

A year into his tenure, a majority of Americans would already vote against Pres. Obama if the '12 elections were held today, according to a new survey.

The Allstate/National Journal Heartland Monitor poll shows 50% say they would probably or definitely vote for someone else. Fully 37% say they would definitely cast a ballot against Obama. Meanwhile, just 39% would vote to re-elect the pres. to a 2nd term, and only 23% say they definitely would do so.

Washington State.  It's in my wallet.  It has the precinct I must vote at.  I can't vote anywhere else other than by provisional ballot, and the poll watchers check off the names together. In addition, party affiliation is not listed on the card, so the poll watchers from each party have no idea who I'm likely to vote for. I seriously doubt they'd hand a ballot to Mickey Mouse, Elmer Fudd, or Fred Flintstone.

The ACORN issue was an employee stealing money from the organization by filling out dozens of voter forms with fake names in order to get paid.  He was fired.  You guys are still blowing smoke up your own asses here. Even your own party leaders have given up that fight.

I wonder how many people can obtain a fraudulent voter ID card, even if
they did have a photo the poll watchers certainly wouldnt notice if you
came in a couple times to vote, they'll see several thousand faces in a
day at most precincts and the fact that people are given a little
sticker in many location that state that they voted sure doesnt help
since it can easily be removed... phred had the dyed finger in his
avatar, cast your ballot and get the dye, it's one way to prevent
multiple votes even if you jump from one polling location to the next
