justice and law

#11747011 - 12/31/09 05:27 AM (16 years, 9 months ago)

does the law command justice because it is justice, or is it justice because the law commands it?

If it is justice because it is justice we don't need the law. But if it is whatever the law determines is justice then justice is completely arbitrary.

Think about it Euthyphro.

They are not the same thing.

Justice is an ideal that law tries to approximate in reality.

What reality is that? My experience with law would differ.

The legal system certainly ain't perfect but at least theoretically its purpose is to enact justice.
