Recycling casings.

So Ive got this casing, a simple crumbled cake and verm casing. I got one flush out of it, and then a couple of stragglers, now its just sitting their sneering at me.
The verm is sort of kind of somewhat colonized.
I am thinking of using this casing, crumbling it all up, and using it as a spawn (If I undrstand the terminology correctly) for a different/new casing using maybe 50/50 with some birdseed mixed in.
Anyone done this sort of thing? I didnt see it in the faq. If the mycelium in my old casing is done...it will still spawn a new casing, right?

Your casing medium with some mycelium in it isn't enough to spawn a bulk substrate.

There is a layer, maybe 3/4 inche deep, of crumbled cakes under the verm casing layer...it has colonized the cerm layer to about 75% maybe.
You dont think this could be used to colonize, or be a substrate layer under a different casding layer?
What if i threw a 50/50 mix casing layer over the top of this casing? would that colonize and grow, and be beautiful?

You can use fully colonized substrate to spawn bulk substrate but not a casing medium. I think you are confused a bit. Try looking into the FAQ for answers.

Perhaps I am confused....It seems to me that when you have a living, growing mycelium, no matter what it is growing on, if it is put in contact with a suitable other growing medium, or casing material, or something with the proper nutrients, then it will start growing into, and colonizing that medium as well. Correct?
I am talking about casings the size of shoe-boxes, in rubbermaide type containers. Not an absolutely huge amount of substrate or casing, or medium.

It also needs food so if there is mycelium on the casing material it gets its nutrients from the substrate below.
