recording microphone
    #11677027 -

Anyone know of a microphone that would connect to a computer, and be able to record drums/guitar/piano all playing together with at least decent sound quality?  Cheaper the better.  Thanks for any help!

wouldnt it be better to do each track individually and put it together with Audacity or GarageBand?

that they do :awesome:

As far as the mic goes, Blue makes a usb mic that would probably get the job done for you if youre looking for cheap functionality. It won't sound amazing but its a start. If you want much better you'll hafta delve into an audio interface, though I warn you- gear lust is a slippery slope!

kind of mic you need is a shotgun mic. its a multidirectional type of mic that you can stick in the center of a room to record multiple live instruments at decent clarity. yup, that's what you need.

False. He just needs something with an omnidirectional pattern (picks up from all around)

Shotgun

Omni

and for the sake of knowledge theres also
subcardioid

Cardioid

Super Cardioid

Hyper-cardioid

Bi-Directional

hmmmm that came out weird but I'm too lazy to fix it

My friend bought a relatively cheap condesner mic and it's good enough for what we do. You can hear all the parts well and it's pretty balanced with a bit of placement and volume experimentation.

Thats what i'd recommend. depending your budget you might wanna get a cheap interface and steal some music production software haha
