Any recording engineers out there?
    #8261157 -

Well I'm finally about to get a macbook pro, pretty souped up too. And i was at work today in new york moving this guys studio out of times square into a new one since his rent just doubled,
and I was talking with my co-worker about finally being able to multitrack with my mixxer after I get a firewire.
Now i have a Peavey 500 16 Channel mixxer, which feeds into an M-Audio Pre USB box which goes into the computer VIA USB. He said since there's only 2 ports on that I will only be able to track two tracks simmaltaniously? Will I have to pick up another M-Audio with more tracks as well as a friggin 300 dollar Firewire?

Yeah, youll only be able to do 2 simultaneous tracks... I wouldn't recommend an mbox if youre looking to do multiple tracks...

Presonus Firepod
I recommend one of these. Few hundred bucks but ive been using it with my macbook pro/logic studio and have no major complaints

I have the firewire 410,
and you can only track into 2 sepereate channels MONO.

whichever program you record into, pro tools, acid pro, sonar, whatever, you can choose to record from left or right only channels, depending on which I/O you use on the 410..this will manipulate the MONO to STEREO..

usually on 2 I/O adapters, like maudio is notorius for putting out, one input is for a mic, and the other, an nstrument, such as a guitar...

to answer your question, no you wont have to go out an buy more equip, you can just use the midi-man? (i'm assuming), and track your sessions out, according to how your gear and your workflow allows..

yeah I was supposed to get a mac book pro but i now i fucking have to wait longer, long story i don't feel like getting into, so this is a firewire port that allows me to multitrack to what seems 8 channels in one take? for a few hundred eh? that's definately do-able

i'm just starting to get into recording so this stuff doesn't all make sense right now. but i just recently got an Alesis Multi-mix 8. has 4 inputs and an interface with usb built in.

One of you should make a big post for beginners in this type of stuff and general terms/how to get started/basics... you know all that good stuff!!

Digi 002 only has 4 inputs. Go with x2and2 and get that presonus, that's your best bet. It's the most practical choice.
It will not limit you at all. And you will have more than enough inputs to do awesome drum tracks.

But I'm sure logic will meet the demands of any home recording studio.

yeah, it is. I just havnt gotten around to steal it yet and I knew my way around logic so thats what ive been using  its fairly effective. Protools is far more simple and..idono..logical to use. Logic you sometimes have to hunt to find stuff you need

nahhh my mentor is hooking me up with it for free! takes up like 40 gigs of hard drive space, ridiculous. Isn't protools for windows / mac friendly people though? Well i've been learning for the past year with logic pro version 8 so i'm gonna stick with that one for now.
