RC nitro engines - if anyone is good with them...help!

OK so I've got my engine broken in, as per the manf's instructions, and am trying to start tuning the engine for top performance.
But it's heating up like a SOB!!!
It's an OFNA Force .26 engine. Baseline settings are - HSN in 2 to 2.5 turns from flush (I have it 2 turns in, quite rich), and the LSN is supposed to be flush with the carb body (which mine is).
Engine starts up great, and runs quite well as is but I'm positive I'm not seeing the max potential yet. After warming up a few minutes I do a couple runs with full throttle then check the engine temp using an infrared temp guage. The temp after these runs is around 240-250 degrees F. The Force 26 engine is supposed to run best in the 240-270 range.
LOTS of smoke coming out the exhaust during initial acceleration, and still lots of smoke through MOST of the powerband but there isn't very much smoke visible once it gets up to full speed.
Should it be running that hot when I've got it so rich?
I decided to try tuning it anyway, keeping an eye on the temp every few runs. Leaned the HSN about 1/8th a turn and the temp went up to around 270-280 after a full-throttle run. Leaned it up another 1/8th of a turn and the temp went all the way up to 310!!!
So I turned the HSN back 1/8th of a turn and tried a few more full throttle runs, then one long full throttle run around the track...after which the temp was showing as 340 F
Scared the shit out of me. I shut it down immediately to cool and returned the HSN to factory defaults.
What the fuck is up with it???? Anyone have any ideas?

No I really don't think it's too lean - I only leaned it 1/4 of a turn from the RICH end of factory settings (they recomend 2-2.5 turns from flush, I started with it only 2 turns). Most of the posts I can find around the net about this engine/buggy say they have it almost a full turn leaner from where I stopped.
Plus a tonn of smoke still comes out even when I had it as lean as I dared (1/4 of a turn lean from default).

Any chance it could be the low speed needle being too lean (even though it's set at factory defaults...) ??

ya its running rich just keep adjusting it. run it on idle and tip the engine 90deg and pinch the fuel line for a sec and let go the engine will will either revup or it will die. What you want is for it to be able to be pinch and not hear an rpm change.

When I pinch the fuel line it runs at the same RPM for about 3-4 seconds, then revs up a few hundred RPM before it dies. That's normal for a rich setting, correct?

Thanks for the info guys!
I just took it out and have it tuned as well as I'll get it for now. Idles at around 220F and shoots up to about 280F during full throttle runs. Tons of power!
