Owning a fully auto assault rifle in america?

I just went to my first shooting range today and shot an ar-15.  Mad fun I would recomend anyone who is interested me and my friend had a ball.

Anyway, I asked the clerk if I could buy a fully automatic weapon and he scoffed at me as if I was some type of murderer.  He said "Nowhere in the united states can you own a fully automatic assault rifle"  so I then said "What about if you are in the military? when you get out can you keep the weapon?"  to which he answered in a cocky ass way "Yea sure, but you will be dishonorably discharged"

Is this guy full of shit with both of my questions or is this all true!?  I want me an automatic rifle god damn it.

Fully automatic assault rifles are illegal to own in the United States.

You can still buy the guns, but they will be single shot rifles if you buy them legally.

He is correct, to my knowledge, that fully automatic rifles are banned in the US.  Also, I'm fairly certain you do not get to keep your military issued assault rifle upon exit.  But who knows, I guess I could be wrong.

He isn't lying. Full auto anything, whether an SMG, pistol, rifle are all illegal.

THANK YOU!  See, I talked to someone I trust wouldn't talk out of his ass and this is what he said, but more people I talk to say completely illegal.

because those AK's you buy in pawn shops are NOT fully-automatic

and even if these "Hillbillies" you speak of in fact HAD a fully-automatic weapon, then chances are they pay the gobs of money it costs to have a class 3 firearms license

Didn't know that, seems like way to much of a hassle to get one legally though.

If you have a class 3 license, yes, you can possess an automatic weapon. Class 3's involve a full background check (including fingerprinting), registration of the firearm with the FBI and ATF, notification of its whereabouts at all times, and the granting of permission to ALL law enforcement with jurisdiction to come onto your property and secure the weapon at any time, for any reason (you give your local, County, State, and ALL Federal Agents permission to come into your home and secure the weapon whenever they want).

Having one without that license is a Federal offense, for which there is no possibility of parole, and no "good time." If you are sentenced to 10 years, you serve 10 years.

well educate us.  I know in my city theirs an auto assault rifle ban but I'm not going to live here forever...  What if I bought it in one state and decide to move to a city with some ordinance against fully auto guns, will I have to get rid of it or just put it in the closet and when someone breaks in use the shot gun?

yep, huge hassle, and most fully-auto weapons sells for about ten times the normal price, not to mention the expensive license itself.

I have NO criminal backround and fuck if I care, I want me an assault rifle legally so when the civil war breaks out I have the option to switch to auto and spray.

you dont even need a class 3, all you need to do is pay the $200 transfer
tax, the $1500+ for the weapon and pass the background check, as long as
those requirements are met there's nothing illegal about the weapon, in
fact it can also be fitted with a sound suppressor on the same requirements

"Full auto" Is a useless,wasteful method of fire. Prone to fucking up.

get an AK and bump fire it. You wont know the difference. You could also make a trigger wheel and get a nutty rate of fire. ( still easily fuck up the gun over time)


seriously. Do at least some extent of learning. When the shit hits the fan, one person with average training and marksmanship with even a bolt action rifle, will pop your auto fire,bullet wasting ass before you get through one mag.

Get an FAL, it's the most fun rifle I've ever shot. Pretty powerful too. ^^^what he said is true

not really... $1200 for an AR-15, NFA, for another $400 a suppressor can be added
