Rifle Laws
    #2552081 - 04/12/04 07:36 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

I am 19 years old and Im looking to purchase a .22 rifle from the local Wal-Mart. I need information or links to web sites that can tell me what Licences or other reqirements im going to need for the purchase. Ive never been convicted of a felony but have a few misdormenors on my record is this going to cause a problem? I also do not have a licence for the state im going to purchase the rifle in but I do have a licence. Anyone know anything?

Your buying it from the local wallmart but your purchasing it out of state?

anyway... you have to fill out some paperwork, you will need your drivers license, and then they have to call a secret goverment agency to make sure your not a convicted felon or have violated any gun laws. Then you get a gun there buckshot!

I personally wouldnt buy a gun from wallmart though, go to a local gun shop, haggle and get yourself a deal. Also... ditch the .22 and buy somthing with a little more punch.

.22's can be fun guns, they aren't all bad. They aren't extremely versital but will work fine for small game and hours of entertaining target shooting.

You can probably walk right into Wal-Mart with your ID and purchase the firearm after some small paper work. I'd recommend a local dealer myself. You can actually deal with them and high quality used rifles are easy to find and a good buy for someone looking to spend a little less.

This is here is a solid gun, they aren't perfect but have good warranty's, great accuracy and over all pretty damn solid. http://www.ruger.com/Firearms/FAProdView?model=1103&return=Y

Make sure you don't waste your time on low quality ammo either, it often will jam and mis-fire.

By the way you could easily find that gun for much cheaper than the suggested retail price. I've never heard one being over 200$ unless it's the stainless steel model.

Thanks. That Looks Exactly what im looking for, all of the other rifles ive seen in my price range have a clip sticking out from the bottom that would get in the way.

You can buy them if you want for that rifle, atleast you used to be able to but they are cracking down on 25-30 shot clips and they are a pain anyways. That one has a 10 shot that fits completely inside the gun. They are cheap enough you can buy a few and not have to worry about loading all the time.

Get yourself a gun cleaning kit also, that is very important, you probably don't have to clean it after each use if your going to shoot alot but if it is going to sit in it's case for awhile you want it clean.

Well I have shot a beaver before (after traping it... of course) with a .22 so it would be sufficent for your needs.

However If I were you I would but a SKS and then put a cool stock on it like mine:

This gun is more versitile than a .22, and relativly inexpensive. I bought it new (never shot) for $200, then I just tweeked it a little.

I wouldn't recommend getting a semi-automatic for your first gun

Depending on what state you're in you might even be able to get a handgun. If you know someone who has one you can (in my state, michigan) buy it off them if you're 18+, though you still need to get a registration, if you have to buy it from a gun shop then you have to be 21. Just go up to your local police station and ask what the laws are, you might be suprised. good luck

why not? I mean, I prefer it, and unless you have never held a gun before i dont see anything wrong with it. I just recomend a SKS because:

Its cheap (to buy and to shoot... ammo is like $3 a box)
It doesnt have much recoil (because its semi-auto)
It is powerfull enough to hunt deer (def. not the best deer rifle, but works)
Its loud and fun to shoot.
