Incubator question<cakes are really wet.

Question:: I have a small rubbermaid container w/a reptile 30-60 gal heating pad underneath it. I also have an inch of water the jars are sitting in.

So are you growing shrooms or contams? Ditch the water, get an aquarium heater.

what? aren't they supposed to get warm.. the heater is heating the water up just to get a little warm to heat the jars.
That aquarium tek requires two tubs plus the aquarium heater which burns up all the time , plus the heater's always blow up/fail..

I have two incubators, one with the two tubs that you speak of, and one with a simple styrofoam cooler.

No you are not opening the door to contams by having water in your incubation chamber.  Make sure your chamber is clean, clean it with bleach.  Place some hydrogen peroxide in there close it up so it is dark and keep it at eighty deg little warmer little cooler that is all you have to do.  You need the water in the chamber for a few reasons, one is moisture for your substrait two it helps maintain a more even temp for the substrait.  Take the moisture out and keep your heater on and your jars will dry out and be use :grin:less..  Next time dont leave your lids loose only one small hole in the topcenter with a synthetic cotton swap as a filter and pacageing tape to hold it on while you pc the jars and incubation.  That is all I ever do and most of my jars are ready in a couple weeks...

The moisture used for the substrate recipe should be more than enough already. If your cakes are drying out, it's because you didn't add enough water during preparation.

Not if you're following Anno's incubator tek. The heat is generated from warming water UNDER the actual chamber that holds the jars.

IMO, and IME, the tightness of the jar's lid has no impact whatsoever on the substrate, unless you screwed up your ratios during preparation.

Go buy ya a heating pad and incubate with that, the water shit is a really shitty way to incubate and they will colonize really fast without gettin the substrate wet. Also keep your lids tight like ski told ya to do...The only reason for keeping lids loose is if ya go with the max fruiting formula Ie:pftek 1/4 rice 1/2 verm 60ml water. I use this formula and i never leave my lids loose except when sterilizing.....I`ve been mad for fucking years,...totally bonkers. TxTek... :smirk:
