First attempt from a mycobag to casing *Pics* *NEED ADVICE!*
    #11579519 -

WALL OF TEXT INCOMING!!

I'm not going to write huge paragraphs, hopefully it will make it easier to read, and quote/reply to.

I'll try to describe the steps. I probably made some mistakes in the colonization/mycellium growth portion (by mashing too much, I think).

So they never really full colonized. I'd say somewhere around 70 percent.

Stopped growth at about 70%. Decided to case it

1/3 verm on the bottom of a tin

1/3 crumbled spawn (the colonized mycobag contents=spawn right?)

1/3 verm on top. (A couple of them that had pins or large were placed on the top of the last layer of verm (and surrounded the base with some verm). Then it was all watered. even directly onto the shrooms that were already growing (Was this a mistake?)

2 days have passed, and mostly what you see is the pins that were already planted near the top, they HAVE grown though, even the tiny ones that were scattered.

I KNOW this was a really sketchy job, but Its done, next time it will be much more properly, but this is what first times are for right?

I dont have much in the way of storage capacity, is it safe to leave it on a paper towel, then placed in a brown bag, and then into the fridge safe? We plan to eat them fresh when we have enough. Also looking for a scale so we can try to dose it properly...

Here are some of the pics.

I had to get used to the bluish tinge on most of them , which is from handling it way too much I assume. Making it harder to spot contams for me, and is making it worrisome... I used a lot of sterile procedure, even down to using sterile gloves (I work in a hospital).

Is this an abort? I noticed it looked like a tiny little dot on the top of the shroom was black, I made sure it wasn't just verm that has stayed there while it grew, and it probably wasn't, it peeled away, and was soft/kinda gooey. I picked some of it off, took some pics. Not safe to eat I suppose... would love to have some confirmation.

Side view of abort/contam

Is this ok?

And this?

tons of questions, I know! Hopefully I didnt both it too bad, I can see mycellium starting to creep up that wasnt there before, a few days ago.

I'm quite interested in figuring out whats safe to eat, in terms of aborts. Ive done shrooms almost 10 times (not much I know), but I've never had anywhere near a bad trip. Just a bad feeling once , for a couple of minutes, see'ing insects), and it didn't last long.

I've done like a 4g dried dose, approx.. it was also my favorite trip! So aborts sound like they are very potent, and a lot of fun. I'm completely confident and not worried because I am a very "in" control person if that makes any sense.

Thanks for any and all input, it truly is appreciated, and I wouldnt have gotten anywhere near this far without all of the good advice I've read on here.

casing looks a little dry, could be bruising on the stems of those mushies.

Although i may advise others in a general way regarding all types of mushroom grows, and may even post question from other forums about growing "active" mushrooms, i only grow non-"active" mushrooms and edibles.

If you think it's time to dunk it or if it appears really dry, otherwise just mist & fan until the first flush is done.....

But really this "casing" or whatever you want to call it sounds a little f@*$#%d and next time just follow a simple bulk sub tek and skip the optional casing layer for your first few projects....

Just see how this one goes.... ~P~

I'd rather learn the hard way. I cant really dunk it as its in the tin, and crumbled...

Thats what I just did. I waited a little too long though. Somehow I stalled its growth in the spawn bag. So I crumbled it and cased it.

no man i mean cut the top of the mycobag and then case it
not open it man handle it it, then put it in a new container.

So I place it in a container, and leave it as a solid "brick" per say. And surround it or do the 3 layer thing with the verm?

okay you have a colonized filter patch bag

you cut off the whole bag except like an inch from the top of the sub. then you case it in the bag.

Its obvious this was kind of a batched experience, but give me a break, its my first time. Ive already got 160 grams wet from it, and I barely cased it a week ago. Im quite pleased to be honest.

You can eat that shroom you asked about.

Not bad for a first attempt, but since you exposed it at 70% colonized, I imagine its contamned a bit. If you try to dunk/soak it, it'll prolly turn funky.

How do you dunk a casing..?

Ive been watering it quite a bit, the small pins are growing to full maturity in like 2 days sometimes. Its in a good location, fan blowing on it lightly, good spot for indirect sunlight, and pretty warm temps.

fast maturation leads me to suspect contamination even more. I willing to bet you don't get a 2nd flush.
