The Skull Project - Third And Final Flush
    #11375191 - 11/03/09 08:08 AM (14 years, 4 months ago)

I began the skull project yesterday, as was suggested by b0red5tiff, thanks for the idea man! I thought it was a neat idea, and I like being creative, so I’ll give it a shot....

The skull is from a Raccoon found on nearby rail tracks some years ago. It was back then, completely clean of any fleshy remains and was further cleaned by my self, and used as a Halloween prop.

Yesterday, it was given a thorough cleaning with soap and hot water, then pressure cooked for 30 minutes at 15psi. It was then allowed to sit and cool overnight.

This morning the skull was stuffed with a coir/coffee/drywall-gypsum mix (70/20/10) at a 50/50 blend with B+ inoculated WBS. It was then misted, placed in a container, and into the incubator where it will remain for a few days or until it shows signs of growth.

I figured the skull looked a little vitamin deficient so I hit it with some B+. :lmafo:  Yeah, yeah, I know.

Anyway, it was a bit of a task getting the substrate into all the little crevices but I did manage to get a fair amount into the brain cavity.

I also think for this to work it will likely need more water than the usual casing. I'll keep a close eye on it.

I'd wrap the whole skull up with foil for a week or two, and then unwrap and fruit.  An alternative is to place it inside a filter patch bag during colonization.

I have it in a small plastic container with holes through the lid and covered with micropore tape.

Would the foil be for locking in moisture?
