Quick note for Presto owners- gasket seasoning is outdated. Read the manual, don't put anything on the gasket.

Otherwise- nice list.

(As for losing the rocker weight... I don't want to jinx myself by saying anything.)

Manual specifically states in big letters not to apply anything, it's 'lifetime lubricated'. You can wash it warm soapy water.
But if there was no gasket, it wouldn't be an issue.

I like my Presto, but I'm a bit envious of the big kids.

Dude its machined aluminum!  really its safe.

guess what all american PCs are made of? :smirk:

If you are considering bulk at all get a 20 quart All american Pressure cooker.

you're right, i had a brain fart and thought they were steel. however, the AA is a single piece of machined aluminum, whereas the presto is not. (correct me if im wrong)

AAs are made from 2 pieces of aluminum, lid and pot.
from looking at my presto I cannot see any way it was made in more than 2 pieces, including lid and pot.

Here is what your looking at.

AA 21qt=200-250can
presto 20qt=20 bucks used, im many second hand stores in my city.

The answer is obvious.
are you the kind of person that buys a reliable long lasting Mercedes.  Or are you the type of person that drives an american car? :smirk:

you compared a new AA to a used presto.

a used 21qt AA can be bought for 100 dollars.

I dont understand your analogy and how it helps your point, but to answer: I'm the type of person that buys a reliable long lasting american car.

welcome back, you seem super hostile.

to answer your questions:

-the things that can break on a AA won't break for decades if not longer, these are usually the plastic wing nuts, or if you blow the safety valve due to misuse. example: the only thing broken on my AA after 50 years is a wingnut and just a corner is chipped.

-To tell you how my weight is different? I don't have one. weights are a cost cutting measure for people who don't need precision and accuracy. (as well as that vacuum seal you scoff at)

-It's good to hear that the gaskets are now self lubricated! Thats a major plus for the presto

-Once again, taping anything to your pressure cooker is dangerous and i would never even consider doing so. also, doubting the effectiveness of a hepa filter leaves you with absolutely no options. would you like to debate the effectiveness of a hepa filter as well?

-lets not get into semantics, you don't live in a room made out of pillows.

-Do me an analysis, that would be interesting. I'm sure if you go to ebay you can just look at the difference in resale value and make an educated decision.

 you are the only one in here arguing that your presto is of equal quality to an AA. It's just plain out false. I'm not saying they are a bad product, I'm just saying they arent anywhere near the quality or craftsmanship of an AA.

How many jars can a 15qt PC hold? 23qt?

I know my PC (23qt Presto) holds 7 quart jars, and could probably hold more if you got an extra shelving and layed them on their sides on the second layer. 15qt probably holds 4-6 quart jars.

Just to weigh in my thoughts on an AA vs Presto, it amounts to the difference of buying a set of silverware from Ikea vs Walmart. Ikea is great if you want good looking silverware that may last for a long time, but Walmart works if you just need something to get the food from the plate to your face.

The Presto gets the food from the plate to my face, time and time again

This guy definitely doesn't know what hes talking about. How many PC's have you even been through?

I've been through 2, a presto AND a mirro pressure cooker, both with a rubber seal and they don't even compare to an AA PC.

AA PC beats everything hands down and you can get a cheap one on ebay  used that will hold 7qt jars for 115 shipped.

Sorry, I'll stick to my all-american and forget the made in China crap.

I can fit 8  quart jars in my 1925x with the insert in.  I like the insert because it keeps the jars out of the water.  I could remove the insert and a vent tube to fit 2 more jars.

I picked up an AA 75x Sterilizer a few months ago for a little under $800 /w ship.

I love it.  It's so convenient/easy to use it's not even funny. I love it.

Holds 15 quart jars at a time.

Doesn't hog up the kitchen either.

Interesting that you should say that because I also have a 21qt AA that I recently got from Ebay for less than ~180 shipped brand new with cashback. I'm in the process of switching over to spawn bags but haven't looked into getting a impulse sealer even though I have spawn bags coming my way from a vendor.

Efficiency is my main concern right now. Once I've had a few successful harvests I'll probably invest in an AA.

Will a Presto do the job?

Since efficiency is the main concern, get an AA now.  Why waste money on a job-destroying piece of shit from china that will be worthless in a few years?  For less than twice the price, you'll get something that will last for a hundred years.  That's a bargain in anyone's book.

Wow thats an intense deal. I don't know if I would expect to get a deal that great(envious and jealous!) but definitely try to look at craiglist.

an AA915 for 115 is a pretty good deal though. I'm pretty sure they can fit 7 qt jars like the 921s do, just a little more cramped.
