Can anyone verify this?

I heard today that somewhere in Asia, (ancient Japan?) they used to put a child in a cave every generation or so, and not let him see the light of day until he turned 12-13. For the child's entire life he would be told that the outside world is a heaven, filled with beauty and that it is perfect in every way, with elaborate descriptions of the world making it sound incredible.

They would then let the child into the world, and use the child for spiritual guidance.

Anyone ever heard of this?

Oh yeah, for those of you I called sheep: last night I ingested a little too much of something, know what I mean? :shrug:

that is the coolest thing i have heard all day

i often wonder about what people would be like if some were conditioned completely differently...kinda lets you think about our core human values, the principles that transcend the effects of our environment

eh, idk about that...it seems like to me we are controlled/motivated by fear...like we are in a very subtle but constant state of paranoia and anxiety and irrationality...being rational and having anxiety to different degrees but idk if its ever truly overcome...

i refuse to be breathe...but how long can i control that? its human nature, instinct...unavoidable me thinks...all you can really do is try to become more aware and gain a patient/accepting, rational state of mind, then your fear will have less control on you...but idk if it will ever have no control over you

well refusing and not doing is different, i don't follow if i can help it.
but say for teachings and all that i do follow.
so i guess it is not avoidable because we are social beings and we do follow something or rather.
but i am strict on what i do follow or do not.
