I don't care about the environment

I'm so tired of all the I love the environment crap. All this bandwagon organic crap. If I really cared I would do something to change my habits. I would try to live in this world and respect the bounty it provides, but I don't care enough for that. I'm just going to truck around in my 12mpg car and not-recycle likes there's no tomorrow. I don't really care about the environment. I wish more people would admit to it. Preaching is comfortable, but change is not.

I like to look at myself as a "creature" of looking at my actions as they truly are, If I don't practice what I preach why should i profess true care.

I don't believe that. But the environment would sure love that.

who said you have to preach anything, one way or the other? i don't quite understand why you would maintain such destructive habits though.
i mean seriously, how fucking hard is it to toss your bottles into a recycling bin instead of a trash can? and wouldn't it be economically beneficial to yourself if you drove a car with better gas mileage? i understand if you do heavy duty work and need such a piece of equipment, but just driving around a beast like that for every day commutes and leisure it's just retarded.
you don't have to preach anything to anyone. and go ahead, fuck up everything around you. no one is going to stop you. but that in no way justifies your senselessly destructive behaviors, and this weird high-and-mighty attitude you get from behaving with complete disregard for the environment and those around you is quite disconcerting.

If you plan on bringing any offspring into this world I believe it is your responsibility as a human being to be a steward of the planet you want them to live on.

Is it that you have nothing else in your life to be rebellious about so you're taking a shit on the environment to soothe your ego?

'eh, i don't overly care about the environment either. I live in a city, there is no environment here.
It's all cost/benefit analysis for me. I recycle, because it's not an incovienance. My truck is a 4cyl, so gas isnt that bad, but that's just a coincidence. It's all about convienance for me, because i'm a selfish american.

I actually care about the environment, It's just that I get so frustrated with all the luke warm approaches to making a change. I Felt real guilty about it and decided to confess. So yea I'm being angsty;), but I see a need to look at my own values for what they are, nothing without action.

I don't get where you guys think caring about the environment is synonymous with being an adult or mature. If you care about the environment, quit being a fucking cry baby pussy, and get a goddamn vasectomy as I did.
Grow up kids, and look at things with a realistic approach on life, you are nothing but a pathetic, worthless human. Want to talk about ego problems, you somehow have the ability or knowledge of a way of reducing the human footprint, I don't think so.

I'm with you man
fuck the environment!

Comfortable. Safe, perhaps? Outcomes assured, lifestyle provided?
A key cause of the fall of the Mayan civilization was excessive consumption and environmental degradation of which there is plenty of supporting evidence. The Mayan process of creating the lime stucco cement that covered their temples required a great deal of energy. One calculation estimates that it would take five tons of jungle forestry to make one ton of quick lime. It would have required nearly 650 hectares (1,600 acres) of every single available tree to cover one building with lime stucco. Epic construction was happening, creating devastation on a huge scale.
Environmental collapse is one of the leading causes of the fall of the empire, along side endemic warfare, over population, and drought. (sound familiar? Is it unfair of me to assume you don't get into climate change and the potential for widespread drought?)
A kingdom seems to have been established in Copán in 159. It grew into one of the most important Maya sites by the 5th century. Large monuments dated with hieroglyphic texts were erected in the city from 435 through 822. The area continued to be occupied after the last major ceremonial structures and royal monuments were erected, but the population declined in the 8th century - 9th century from perhaps over 20,000 in the city to less than 5,000. By the time of the Spanish conquest of Honduras, the site had long been overgrown by rainforest.
The whole environmental issue is a matter of perspective. Mayan culture? Blip! They're gone. The smaller culture in Copán, what, 600-700 years? Blip!
The real question is, with the knowledge we have accumulated, after all we have been through and could yet go through as a species will we allow ourselves to go Blip! in a big, bad, totally predictable and anticipated way?
Or will we strive to find another way and grow, evolve into that? If you're so intent on closing the book on this society wouldn't you want to embrace the search for another way as it is? This is about quality of life here and now and for everybody and natural resources and environmental issues are at the heart of that situation.
-------------------- Q: We wanted to see if you had the ability to expand your mind and your horizons... and for one brief moment, you did. PICARD: When I realized the paradox... Q: Exactly. For that one fraction of a second, you were open to options you'd never considered. That's the exploration that awaits you...not mapping stars and studying nebulae... but charting the unknowable possibilities of existence. To carry yourself forward and experience myriad things is delusion. That myriad things come forth and experience themselves is awakening. -Dogen Zenji
