pasturizing bulk right now for pan cyan HI tray. wooooo

wooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!! i finally feel ready to spawn to bulk with my pan cyan hawaii.

i have 1 qt of pan cyan hawaii wbs, coffee, gypsum. it was inoculated on  9-26-2009 with a small section of peroxide agar. ive found time and time again that agar to wbs is a very slow way to grow out jars. i did it because agar was all that was inoculated and i didnt want to wait for anything else. next time ill have a grain lc for sure.

So on the stove in my pc (lid off) i have a used spawn bag. in that spawn bag i put:

2 pints earthgro steer manure (home depot $1.07 :smile: big bag)

1 pint medium grade verm

1/4 cup gypsum (should i add more?)

1 pint of HYDRATED coco coir

i mixed it all together with 1 pint of tap water. then the bag was closed with a meat thermometer in it. placed in the water in the pc and the gas stove turned on.

i have the stove on med hi. it will be there untill about 150 or so is measured in the bag. then ill turn it on low or whatever it takes to keep them temp steady between 170-180.


the 1 quart of pan cyan spawn will be mixed with the bulk  i made in a 2:1 bulk:spawn ratio. do you think this is ok considering the amount of manure? should i go 1:1?


then im laying the mix down (thoroughly mixed) in some tupperware containers. about 1.25" deep. im considering adding a .25" casing layer of plain potting soil with some verm mixed in. i need to lookinto wether to case or not with this species.

after 100% colonization (should be about 4 days?) ill throw it in my fc with my cubes. ill make everything ideal for the pans though.

how does all that sound?

Questions from above:

How long should i keep the bag in the water at this temp? im guesssing 1.5 hours more less?

should i add more gypsum of add coffee?

casing or no casing? is dirt with verm ok after pasturization? 0.25" depth ok?

what ratio should i use spawn to bulk?

wow no one is interested in pan cyan grows?

maybe i just suck.

either way the manure mix went for 1.5 hours at 180F. now its cooling off and imdeciding wether to do multiple small ones or big ones.
