Mini Mono Tub update w/ pics 36

There seemed to be a lot of interest in this thing, so I figured I'd give it a thread of its own and some pics to show it off.
Here's the overview: Tape (or paint) for bottom 4 1/2 inches, then drill 1/4" holes every 2". (Thanks RR!) It takes a half-brick batch of coir, or a similar amount of other substrate. I use 2-3 quart jars of spawn. This particular tub has Oak Ridge growing.

Fruiting conditions were introduced on 7/8. Which is to say, I took it out of the plastic bag it had been in and set it near a window. It's in an uninsulated utility room, so it gets a natural temperature and light cycle.

No fanning at all- zero. I mist once or twice a day as needed.

Inside view. Yes, that pin is nearly as big as my thumb.

I should be able to update this again in 3-5 days, if all goes well.

It's CCV. Coir/coffee/verm. I thought I had gypsum in it, but looking back through my notes I see that I didn't get that or castings until the next day. Each tub holds a half batch, you get two from one brick. I typically spawn 2-3 quarts of WBS to a tub like this.

Misting and not fanning... That is where I want to be with my tubs. I am glad I have some one to look up to. Thanks Doc.
You know what would be sweet? Is that if you looked as much like Kiefer Sutherland as I imagine.

More like Donald Sutherland. Only not so tall. Or handsome.
But yeah- occasional mist (you'd need even less if you had more humidity than I do) and no fanning at all. It's pretty slick. All respect to RR for the hole spacing. I might have found it eventually, but he showed us all how to do it long ago.

You being from CO. I still see you carrying a pistol and backing up Emilio Estevez.
I am starting to think that FAE or GE, (at the proper times) is more important than humidity. Is this a good train of thought?

They are all important. GE is absolutely essential during colonization. FAE is required during fruiting. But humidity of the correct level is also important, all throughout the life cycle. It's a balancing act.
Depending on your local conditions, the style of tub, and your personal approach, one factor or another will be 'the most important' for you. Around here, humidity is my big issue- it's effectively a desert where I live. So my tubs dry out with unpleasant rapidity.

Yes. That makes sense. Thanks again. I have some things to consider for my next set up.

What is the size of your mini-tub? I am using 11 gal. containers and feel I should treat them as a mini-tub vs. a mono-tub.

I don't know it in gallons. It's the Sterilite 1896, the one that holds hanging files. I got a bunch for free, so I had to figure out how to make them work. But like I said, it's a half batch of substrate, so 4 quarts.

Nice dialed-in setup. I like the size and low maintenance. Sounds like you use a lot of spawn for that container.

Flush matured faster than I thought- I woke up to this:

Went to work, came home to:
So I harvested 11.6 ounces of fresh mushrooms, including this gorgeous cluster: Gotta love it when the spores get all over your hand!

Oak Ridge, it is yummy. It's my favorite strain by far. People say a cube is a cube, and I say it too- but Oak Ridge is special. I don't know if it's a sub-species, I guess the argument has gone back and forth.
Ooops... strain discussion.

I made a couple of prints. I'm not used to such huge caps- the prints came out juicier than I expected. I let them dry overnight, we'll see. Anyway, there's three of them here if anybody wants one. PM me.
