kava tablets

so i came accross these at a dollar store today and grabbed a few boxes.

i actually just purchased a ton of kava powder

i've heard bad thing about the tablets, from they don't work to they make you sick, etc. making them the "traditional" way is extremely easy however, and from what I've read produces much better results.

so i was thinking about giving these a go, it says 500mg kava, so is that like 500mg kavalactones or what? i wonder.

Dont bother. Crushed up 30 tablets and mixed them with hot chocolate. They didnt seem to do anything. I guess you have to get the plant material.

I tried it 2 days in a row,

no effects - pretty useless stuff. The numbing effect was present in my mouth, but I wouldn't call it pleasurable.

I used the plant material as well.

I wouldn't bother with the pills, I've heard of people taking entire bottles with no effects. The best place I know to get kava is http://www.nakamalathome.com people seem to really like their "Stone Kava" the "Chief's Jungle Kava" is supposed to be stronger but people complain about it being too strong or causing a bad hangover, it sounds like it tastes even worse than most kava too which is saying a lot.

Problem with the pills is that back in the day they used to contain the whole plant ground and capsulized. The leaves and branches have some hepatoxic compounds, which is why in the historic ethnobotanical application only the roots were utilized. Some folks really dinged up their livers all because some pharm companies decided to check their bottom line instead of investigate a crucial tradition.

I love me some kava. Grind it yourself if you can, for an extra kick.

i've tried it multiple times and i never get an effect :frown:

most drugs don't affect me these days, idk why.

they are pretty much the same thing..I liked kava when I was in high school but haven't done a big dose since.
If you have access to weed then you'd be better off just getting high from that..

idk what you guys are talking about, i took one capsul of ground powder (234mg of Kava, 70mg Kavalactones) for the first time a couple days ago and definitely felt it. somewhat strongly too. and i weigh almost 200lbs.

never taken any Kava before that dose.

EDIT: although i wasnt looking to get high, i was using it for its anti anxiety properties. and it definitely helped with that.

Anyone here have experience preparing Kava, I have some that I got through the market place here.  The problem is it's in an almost powdered form, which makes it really difficult to strain out to just liquid.  it took alot of work to get a little bit of it, kept clogging up the holes in all the filters that I tried, homemade and coffee filters.


Any advice would be appreciated.

There are some good capsule products out there now on the market. www.konakavafarm.com has some good products along those lines. Kavalactones aren't really the most stable chems, though, and plenty of the capsules available at supermarkets have  died on the shelf.

I use a nylon cloth or similar straining bag will work. Put 1/4 cup to 1 liter (4cups) water. Massage bag for ~ 10 minutes. Ready to serve. I dont have the stomac for kava anymore. I used to be able to drink like 17 shells in one sitting and get wasted. But not anymore. My taste buds "evolved" and now it tastes worse than it ever did.

I've always used a touch of lecithin in the water as well. Traditionally the kava was chewed by a virgin, and then the kava saliva spit out. This spit was used to make the beverage, so the lecithin is meant to help emulsify the kavalactones.
