The Spiritual Power of Place - The Sedona Edition
    #11224034 - 10/10/09 11:07 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I spent the day biking, hiking, and climbing around Sedona Arizona. I have to say that the scenery is quite spectacular. It has occurred to me many times in my explorations of outdoor areas that certain places affect the attention in various ways. I am aware that many new age types hold certain areas around Sedona to be in possession of mystical energy. They call these places energy vortices. Many people will even tell you what you should experience at the various vortex sites. Personally I think that approach is bullshit. However, I do think that places of extreme beauty (or ugliness) have the ability to focus the attention. If one is open to the moment as it occurs and acknowledges the feelings they experience that they may be inspired to one type of action or another. Today I climbed one of the so called "vortex" sites in Sedona. I hiked to the saddle of Cathedral Rock. It was a tricky little climb at one point, but well worth the doing. I don't think that any female energies overcame me, but I was inspired by the beauty and majesty of the view. Do these places have power? Yes. Is it mystical? No. Ultimately it is up to the perceiver to act on what they perceive.

I am just so glad that you did not do Ray's sweat lodge ceremony. I was worried when I felt your presence in Sedona.

On a lighter note I will be giving "The Spiritual Power of Place" workshops in Sedona later this month. Please PM OrgoneConclusion for the fees and arrangements as he will be heading up the first series of sessions.

Don't EVER promise that. Here is a pic of me descending a vortex site (Cathedral Rock this afternoon). Death is a definite possibility in scenic areas....unless your a sissy of course.

Anyway, sweat lodges suck...they are too hot. How about air conditioning ceremonies...you listen to Pink Floyd and serve cocktails or good microbrewed beer.

I like lying in a hammock being fanned by Cleopatra look-a-likes while drinking one of those tropical foo-foo cocktails with the pink bumbleshoot.

We can work that in. It has possibilities no doubt. Church services are always so stuffy...my religion is more laid back.

I do think that loud Hawaiian floral print shirts and sandals should be mandatory. Panama hats being optional.

Before leaving Sedona tomorrow I want to visit the UFO Museum and Gift Shop. I want to once and for all find out the truth on all of this alien business.

Be sure to bring back a genuine chunk of alien spacecraft debris. Should be a bargain at around $55 + tax.

How about the power of place in terms of provision?
I.e. medicinal plants?

Or the power of place in terms of landmarked memories?
I.e. stories with moral lessons which are given a physical location, not solely a mental one.

That's not odd. Occurrences like this are normal when a shaman appears at a vortex site.

That could be evidence of inter-dimensional visitors.

That is always a good spin...gremlins. I always suspected that computers had little people in them to make them go.

That makes sense unlike the aliens from other planets scenario.
