Hmmm

A list of what I like or what I own would to be too long to post. I own thousands of cd's.

For this forum?

I like Todd Rundgren.

I have about 25 of his cd's.

His is brilliant and there are a lot of themes like; reality, healing, states of consciousness, etc.

I like jazz, blues, acid rock, punk, easy listening, country, hiphop, rap, classical, and new age.

I want to hear tool. They sound very interesting.

Cheers,

I use WinMX..but I have a lurking suspicion that it is a potent evil. Somehow spyware got on my computer and was giving me pop up ads every 30 seconds, but I located the source and eradicated it.

On my track list right now I have:

Blind Guardian - Imaginations from the other side, The quest
Dream Theater - Metropolis part 1 - the miracle and the sleeper, Metropolis part 2. scenes from a memory, Losing time
In Flames - Timeless, Embody the invisible, Biosphere, Medley, The Jesters dance
Opeth - Black rose immortal, Nectar, The night and the silent water, Advent, The Twilight is my robe
Rush - Black forest, Limelight, Yyz, Passage to Bangkok, The fountain of Lamneth, Between Sun and Moon
System of a Down - Forest, Aerials, Spiders, Chop Suey, Innervision
Tool - 46 & 2, Third eye, Disgustipated, Pushit, Parabol, Parabola

i saw 'godspeed' live with telefon tel aviv and some insane country band. they were good... but the problem is that all their songs follow the same formula, and it does get old after a while. they had a big video backdrop that displayed homemade music videos though, so that helped.

hmm.. i used to use Kazaa but i deleted it cuz of the spyware. also, i don't think soulseek works anymore. their webpage is gone and my software can't locate any servers. the file-sharing scene appears to be falling on hard times... audiogalaxy was the best i've ever used, by far... i'll have to try winmx, i suppose.

here are a few under-exposed songs worth checking out for insane shroomerites:

techno.
red snapper: 4 dead monks, crusoe takes a trip, they're hanging me tonight
pan american: code
black dog instrumentals: chase the manhattan, the big issue, babylon
black dog + black sifichi vocals: invisible things, interview
autechre: skin up you're already dead, vietrmx (plaid remix)
millenia nova: i'm dead
mescalito: botnik
coil: the snow, nasa arab

rap/hip-hop.
tricky: hell is around the corner (portishead remix)
saul williams: twice the first time

vaguely rock-type music.
my bloody valentine: only shallow (live), soon, no more sorry, fear satan (mogwai cover)
john frusciante: ramparts, running away into you, ants, going inside
brian eno: here come the warm jets, some of them are old

industrial/techno.
skinny puppy: riverz end, worlock, tfwo, assimilate, smothered hope
pigface: asphole
bjork vs alec empire: any
bomb 20 feat. cobra killer: anarchy

other.
william s burroughs: is everybody in?
hasil adkins: no more hot dogs
bjork: amphibian, aurora (opiate version)
coil: assassins of hakim bey
pan sonic: maa

well that oughta keep ya lunatics busy for a while.

good thread.

i have heard Amon Tobin on the Golden Gate Bridge,
and the Disco Biscuts at Yosemite Falls,

(a Discman is a day tripper?s best friend)

but the Album i heard at Cathedral Rock in Sedona, completely blew my mind...

Forest For The Trees sounds like Biscuts/Shpongle/Ween/Beck/God...

btw the Senheiser Evolution HD-2270 headphones are the best sounding cans on the market...

Could some kind people offer me advice on some Sphongle, Infected Mushroom and Astral Projection.  I need to branch out in that directions, the only electronic music I own is Aphex Twin Selected Ambient Works Vol. II and Richard D. James.  Other suggestions are welcome.  I don't even know what I'm getting myself into but I like all realms of instrumental music, from classical, jazz, blues, rock and roll, ect.

Might as well add some of my favorties.

Grateful Dead
Phish
Widespread Panic
John Scofield
Miles Davis
Bob Marley
Bob Dylan
DAVID KOLKER (RIPS!)
Derek Trucks
Allman Brothers Band
Mahavishnu Orchestra
Leo Kotke
Nick Drake
Jimi Hendrix
Son Seals
Stevie Ray Vaughan

Many more..

Quote:

Okay I want to download some new music but I don't know which particular songs to download... so post a handful of your current favorite songs! I respect your opinions greatly.

Okay, here are some favourites, for you or anyone else to download or (God forbid!) purchase:

Beck - Sweet Sunshine, WhiskeyClone Hotel City 1997, Steal my Body Home
Tool - Stinkfist, Third Eye, Jimmy
Pink Floyd - Us and Them, Echoes, Another Brick in the Wall Part II
Modest Mouse - The Cold Part
Soundgarden - 4th of July, Limo Wreck
Jimi Hendrix - Voodoo Child (Slight Return), Machine Gun, Hey Joe
Pearl Jam - Tremor Christ, Even Flow, No Way
Radiohead - You and Whose Army, Climbing up the Walls, Street Spirit
Stone Temple Pilots - Silvergun Superman, Plush, Still Remains
Queens of the Stone Age - No One Knows
Alice in Chains - Them Bones, Hate to Feel, Rain When I Die
Devin Townsend - Seventh Wave
A Perfect Circle - Magdalena, Judith
I Mother Earth - Levitate, Rain Will Fall, So Gently We Go
Dave Matthews Band - Pig, Spoon

All of these songs are amazing. If I were to recommend three of the above songs to download that you probably don't already have, I'd pick:

Beck - WhiskeyClone Hotel City 1997
I Mother Earth - Levitate
Devin Townsend - Seventh Wave

Have fun, and make sure you report back what you liked. I'll do the same, but unfortunately I am restricted to paying for my music :frown:. However, I have been known to buy CDs without having heard them before if they're recommended by a friend whose musical tastes I trust.

Eulogy
Pushit
The Grudge

Damn no luck finding this stuff online, I've searched local CD stores before and came up with nothing. Anyone know any places online I can order this type of music? I'd prefer to not order directly from official websites of musicians. I don't want to make more than one order.

the Forest For The Trees CD with the song "Dream" on it is meant to be heard from top to bottom on HiFi Headphones while tripping. You can find it at used CD stores.

i would say "Tree", "Stream" and "Algorithm" are the best tracks..

many of the Artists listed in this thread still have day jobs to pay the bills,
and could really use our support in continuing their work...

so if you like a song you hear on Kazza or Gnutella,
that is written by an Artist NOT on Billboard or MTV, BUY THE ALBUM!

check out www.backroadsmusic.com,
"Your premier source for over 6,000 titles of
Ambient, New Age, Space, Tribal & Global sounds, and other fascinating music"

I could name a large number of artists I enjoy but I CANNOT STRESS ENOUGH to the people in this forum that they MUST listen to:

SHPONGLE!!!

Shpongle's first CD, "Are you Shpongled?" is the most amazing piece of art I have ever experienced in my life.  The second CD, "Tales of the Inexpressable" is almost as godly amazing, but is only the second most amazing piece of art I have ever experienced.

SHPONGLE IS A MUST!

Go to a CD website now and order "Are you Shpongled?", I can't imagine anyone in this forum not falling in love with Simon and Raja.

Been listening to them for two years or so now... I was actually initially turned onto trance/goa by people on this board..and a friend reinforced that newfound interest for me.
That's quite a list you have there... Ozric Tentacles is cool
I've discovered a lot of new bands from shroomerites. Bands I probably would have never heard otherwise... Finding new music that is pleasing to the ears is always a great thing!

I'm recalling some type of dream or something where Ozric Tentacles was to be an aid in dissolving the walls blocking memories of past lives... for me anyways. As I listen to it I can just see fields and space and water and energy

some of my favorites ppl have left out:

emerson lake & palmer (best popular prog band ever!)
yes - "close to the edge" (whole band on lvl 5 acid trip!_ ! incredible!)
blue oyster cult (songs like "don't fear the reaper" and "astronomy" rule!)
neil young
crosby stills nash & young
genesis
chicago
boston
david bowie
doobie brothers
geddy lee
allman brothers
keith green (christian music)
phil keaggy (christian, in jimi hendrix' opinion the best guitarist in the world!)
tom petty
the offspring (earlier stuff like cds "smash" and "ixnay on the hombre")
billy idol
early metallica
monster magnet
our lady peace
stone temple pilots
foo fighters
pennywise
nofx
alanis morissette (yes, even her...)

i like pretty much all the music everyone else has listed, but many more good bands have still been neglected. here's a few good misc songs also:

ten years after - i'd love to change the world
limblifter - wake up to the sun
manfred mann - spirit in the night
lords of acid - LSD = truth
the byrds - eight miles high
wallflowers - difference
war - low rider
watchmen - stereo
metallica - whisky in the jar
collective soul - all
the beatles - i am the walrus
i mother earth - used to be alright

and, on ketamine, nofx - kids of the k hole

Anyone ever watch the Aphex Twin video Come to daddy while tripping? I'm scared..

No one mentioned Nine Inch Nails. They're awesome. All of it.

How about Brian Eno - Apollo or Peter Gabriel - Passion. Those are good instrumental albums.

hrmm.. to put it bluntly, any type of unique creative music from the soul (that has good dynamics) (and not too many vocals)

every time i try and write out a classification for my favorite types of music i just get frusrated and scrap it, like i just did..

if i would make a suggestion i would say check out Vida Blue's self titled album.. nobody else has mentioned that i think.. they got the phish keyboardist, its really soothing stuff
and Inlakesh (its all like earthy didjeridoo stuff, really sweet)

oh yea if you like heavy music check out Candiria, BUT they also make some amazing mellowed out trippy songs with all sorts of nifty instruments.. they also include alot of trippy jazzy elements amidst the hardcoreness...

Vida Blue, oh I love that album, Page completely steps away from that Phish style creating something unique to anything else he's ever recorded, this is the first band he's ever put together! If Phish can't get it together after this tour, fuck it Page your my man go do your own thing!!!!
That funky meters drummer throws shit down to, the bassist really lays a groove that Page weaves a sick ass tapestry around. Really great, I hope adds his synth stuff to Phish's newer music, that is if Trey is off his ego trip.

I order shpongle today, I plan on dosing when I get it and taking a trip with it. Just got a nice surround system to, tho it might not get used, I may just put on headphones and head for the hills.
Sugestions?

OK, at the risk of repeating what's been said 100 times already, I'll write the few I feel strongly about that I didn't see mentioned:

Dredg - Unconventional, spiritual, powerful, artsy, conceptual.
Tracks of note: Of the Room, Movement I, Movement II, Yatahaze

Hum - The most beautiful music I've ever heard. Brilliantly emotive, wonderful guitarscapes.
Tracks of note: If You Are to Bloom, The Scientists, Green to Me, Suicide Machine

Bjork - All is Full of Love (my favorite song at the moment)

Coldplay - Don't Panic, Shiver (yeah I know its pop but Don't Panic is one of the best songs ever written IMO)

The Irresistable Force - Nepalese Bliss
DJ Sasha - Wavy Gravy, Out of Body Experience
Red Snapper - 4 Dead Monks
Boards of Canada - Wildlife Analysis, You Could Feel The Sky

Check out my Sea Change album review

What did you think of the new album?

I got in the mail this week 'Vida Blue'.  I have listened to it several times and IT ROCKS!  Not to mention I got it for $3.75 + SH!  Five shrooms to you Grav for the recommendation!!

I also got 'Foretst for the Trees' self titled and 'Tales Of The Inexpressible'  Shpongle.  Not enough time to form an opinion.  Bagpipes rule!

I've gave Are You Shpongled a few listens and I like it but I don't know how much I'll listen to it, kind of to ambient for my liking, we'll see tho I'm not really done checking it out yet. Claypools new album has most of my time taken right now. THis album is insane!

Would like to add The Flaming Lips to this already great list. I just got their new album called "Yoshimi Battles The Pink Robots", and does it ever rock. This has to be one of my favourite albums. Their other stuff is equally fantastic. The album Zaireeka comes on 4 cds to be played on four cd players at the same time, can you imagine?
