Sterilization Question

I do not have a pressure cooker. But i was curious about my dishwasher it has heated dry and the coil at the bottom gets so hot that cups will melt if they fall down threw. It creates alot of steam in there? What is the best way to find out if its capable of sterilization can anybody help me please.

see if temps get up to 250F+ for 60+ minutes (needed for sterilization).:thumbup:

if your doing Pf-tek then you can steam your jars in a big pot on your stove for 90min.  but for grains like birdseed or rye then PC is best.

do you think getting a digi thermometer and running a wire in there to test it would be a good idea? is that too hot for the wire?

The real question is,can you get the Dishwasher to run for 60 min at 250 degrees F.?

You can get 'spore plates' that they use to test autoclaves. Piercing and tattoo shops have to use them to ensure their clave is up to snuff. They're not horribly expensive, but then again neither is a so-so PC.

Careful with those second hand PCs. I got a biggun off ebay but by time I replaced all the seals that were junk I spent as much as if it were new.

no you cant use your dishwasher.

If yoiur using the pf tek, you can use steam sterilisaton. For grains you will need a pressure cooker.

You will only get 250F by sterilising at 15 psi. Without pressure you wont get past 212f
