Rocker type PC silencer tek

WARNING: It is a very DUMB idea to block the area where the pressure comes out. The rocker lets the excess pressure escape to prevent the PC from over-pressurizing and exploding, you can easily kill yourself or someone else. I do NOT recommend doing this if you are new to using a pressure cooker or if you're under the age of 18. This is just an idea and not intended to actually be recreated. Educational purposes only.




Materials needed:
  • 2 buckets to fit inside of each other - I used a 2.5qt and a 1qt from Home Depot paint dept.
  • Insulation - I bought the smallest bag it cost me around 4$ at Home Depot


Creating it:
  • Place about 1" of insulation in your bigger bucket and then place the small one inside it.
  • Fill the sides as tight as you can without the bucket warping.
    Store it until youre ready to PC.


Use:
  • When my rocker starts hissing at 15PSI I take the small bucket out and place it over the rocker and lower my heat until the rocker stops hissing and is relatively quiet. This is usually no longer than 5 minutes. It is not wise to keep this on there for that long as it is possible you could be blocking the steam from escaping and overpressurizing your PC. This is very unlikely, the way I built mine I could leave it on for the whole 90 minutes. The insulation gets wet but the steam escapes from the bottom quietly. I do not recommend this because yours may be built different than mine.


Reasoning:
  • The reason I made this is because of the time I pressure cook. I cook at night and my wife is sleeping so I threw this together so I do not disturb her. The next morning I inoculate my jars.

if you put a penny on top of the rocker you can turn the temp down a hair and it's considerably quieter. plus if the pressure goes up the penny just falls off.

You should turn it down until it just barely is moving anyway. It shouldn't make much noise.

if you know your stove, you can set the temp so that the rocker barely hisses. i cover mine with a towel and it is silent

I use a hot plate. Adjusting the heat is not as easy as a stove.

yeah that's what i thought when i first got it ( 21.5 presto ), but when i turn it down a c-hair it's at 12psi 10 min. later. ( gas stove btw ) so...idk

btw i went to the feed n seed the other day where i got it and they had the 41qt for 10$ more than i paid. :hissyfit:
