old PC
    #1514344 - 05/02/03 11:11 AM (14 years, 7 months ago)

I have never used a pc before and just got an old used one. is it normal to have a very small hole on the lid by very small i mean like pencil lead sized? there is a hole that sized on the end of this 1 inch tall metal nipple (for lack of better words) that sticks up from the center of the lid. I cant tell if something is supposed to be attached to it, it doesnt have a gauge, but somehow i dont think it is for the gauge.

Some of those old PC's have rather strange steam relief valves / toggles / gizmo's on the lid. Like the 1930 vintage Ball pictured below.

Just fire the puppy up & give it a test run - to see what does what. Just use caution. Be safe - rather than sorry.

Yeah I'm going to test it out on Monday, but when i do.. How am I supposed to know if there is pressure in there and how much? I assume its a 10 psi i only assumed that cuz it looks old.. Theres no gauge, any way to check if theres pressure in there?

A pic of the lid would help. Does the old gal have any weight gizmo on top?

There has to be some way to regulate internal pressure.

No, it wont work right. your pc requires a pressure regulator that sits on top of that 1 inch nipple (i love that word) (a.k.a. vent tube). it is shaped like a hockey puck, except smaller and made of metal like the pressure cooker. here is a picture of what it should look like.

you can go to this website and search for the make and model of your pressure cooker to find the exact appropriate part.
http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/
look on the pressure cooker itself to find the manufacturer name and then you can start searching for the pressure regulator. WITHOUT the regulator, the pressure will not build up enough and not work properly. there should also be a rubber o-ring seal for the lid, and a red rubber plug in the lid as well. i dont know if the color of the rubber plug varies or not. all the ones i have seen were red. good luck. make sure you get a press regulator before you fire that baby up. good luck! =)
