Shroomery Jar Teks

I just made myself some birdseed and rye jars using the shroomery 1 pint teks. I followed the instructions to the T, but after pressure cooking, the jars seem almost half empty. Is this normal?

Dependent on what tek you used. The grain or seed should have absorbed water & swelled up before you loaded the jars. The raccoon loads his about 3/4 full. They are still about 3/4 full after PC'ing?

If yours shrank dramaticly, inside the jar. Meaning the volume is much smaller than what you loaded into the jar, before you PC'd. Something is out of whack, somewhere.

You may have lost moisture, causing the grain or seed to shrink? Hopefully, you did not loose to much.

No, the grains definately expand when they absorb the water, but they still come nowhere near to filling the jar. The rye fills it more than birdseed too...

Nope, I don't "pack" them in. Just load with a big spoon, so they are consistant & without voids in the jar.

The top seed seems to dry out a bit, after PC'ing. A good shaking evens out the mix of grains from the bottom that don't seem to dry out, as much. So, after shaking, the mix is pretty consistant.

It might also depend a little on the type of PC -= used. I use an AA, & no steam escapes. One with weights allows steam to escape from the PC. So, I would guess, there may be more moisture loss with a weight type PC.

Differing teks possibly.

I believe you load dry grain & water, then PC. Certainly, the grain would swell inthat instance.

I soak over night, then load & PC. The grain is already swollen, pre/PC. So, the volume stays about the same.

I don't know which way this guy prepared his.
