Right, and so would Bear Grylls if he weren't in front of a camera.
He's not actually surviving in Man vs Wild, he's filming an entertainment show -- and doing a pretty good job, if you ask me. I laugh my ass off when I watch it.

Just to be clear, I'm not maligning Les Stroud in the slightest. If you ask me who I respect more, Bear or Les, I don't even have to think about it: Les Stroud is the man.

I just get really tired of people bashing on Bear Grylls because he's a good entertainer. Man vs Wild is not a very serious show: that much was obvious by episode three. That doesn't mean he's incompetent, it just means that the two shows are different.

He's not a good entertainer. I don't want to watch someone munch on a sick maggot, or suck an elephant turd for shits and grins. He'd do a better job entertaining if he sang a song and did a bloke-ass jig.

no one is bashing him as an entertainer, except DNKYD but I understand
where he;s coming from, it's easy to get the folks in his area to eat
turds, scorpions and worms, he just has to announce that he's throwing a
party with free snacks

people are bashing the fact that he claims to be teaching people
survival skills when most of his shit is bogus and if tried in actual
situations could get someone killed, that's not survival, it's darwin
nominations in the making

Okay yeah that's a decent point. It is pretty irresponsible of him to claim any educational value.

Then again ... does he? Claim educational value?
I thought the show had a fat disclaimer basically telling the audience "if you try this you gonna die."

Anyway, anyone who trusts the TV to teach them survival skills kind of deserves what they get when they put that "knowledge" in action.

the disclaimer at the beginning is in fine print. it says something about bear and his crew have to have help and neutrition supplied to them in case of emergency, required by some government agency. don't try this at home. for entertainment purposes only. (or something to that effect)

I love Bear Grylls

He is extremely entertaining and definitely has my respect, considering he is the youngest Briton to ever climb Everest at the age of 23. I think that most certainly deserves some sort of recognition.

sure, that deserves respect, but they should make it better known that its only for entertainment. most shots are set up to look dangerous when there really not.

it should read "Bear Grylls is a gimpy twat, his safety crew fetches him
t-bones, baked potatoes and a side salad in between the bug eating
takes, Longhorn Steakhouse is just to the right of the shot, dont go out
in the woods, even Bear thinks it's scary"

Like someone previously said, if you are getting your outdoors survival skills off TV, you need to find a much better source.

I love Man VS Wild and have had many debates with friends about who is "better", Bear, or Les. Les is of course much better at surviving, but I have no doubt Bear could do as well as Les. Bear is just entertaining to watch.

I remember a couple of my friends and I watched him for like 4 hours while we were tripping on shrooms and I've never laughed so hard before. Some of the shit he does is fucking hilarious. As soon as we turned the TV on, he's jumping in to a freezing cold river ass naked.

I'd stay in a hotel as well if I could. Again, hes filming an entertainment show, not a survival guide.

If you aren't entertained by him, don't watch his show.

Lol. Watch out for dem stray cats n dogs, they be vicious!

Seriously though, Les doesn't give much better of information. Maybe I'm just more knowledgeable on basic survival techniques but I find myself saying "DUH" a lot when watching him.

Make sure your wifey/gf/mom has a clear path to get your ham sammiches to you. You don't want her to be out in the big bad wilderness for too long.

It's even funnier when he has no hesitation in stabbing a turtle right in the neck, but then talks about how religious he is.

Not on the show, but his website is full of god/religion blabber.

Funny shit.
