I'm kind of shocked at some of the comments in this thread.
I'm not all pro gun hoo haa.. but guns exist. who cares if people come packing heat to anything, especially a protest.
The cops are always packing heat, and they don't have the cleanest track record, neither does our government.
The right to bear arms does not have any clause for 'bad taste', it exists to protect us against tyranny above all else.
My thoughts: The government should be scared of its citizens, not the other way around.
It sends them a message, we are not to be fucked with. I don't give care who that offends.
So if people want to bring assault rifles to these things, more power to them, they are supporting the cause.
As long as weapons of death exist, I want them in the hands of the people and not the government only.

That states that it was on the transition website and not the campaign website, and was quickly retracted.  Obama has never supported this position since he began the presidential campaign.

I would love to see this scenario unfold:

Protesters are legally carrying open weapons. Cops OBVIOUSLY shoot somebody in the wrong. Like, everybody is standing around and a cop just shoots someone. In defense that person shoots the cop back. AND THERE WAS A FIREFIGHT!!!

It would be an interesting aftermath. Politically that is.
