 Can a civilian in USA (california) legally carry an expandable baton?

I'm only interested in protecting myself and would not be opposed to breaking an attacker's arms, legs, or cracking their skull if need dictates. Could this kind of baton do that?
I know if I assault somebody with it I could get in trouble for assault with a deadly weapon but if it was in self defense I'm golden, right? Is it legal to carry this type of weapon on my person?

Depends on circumstances and what you can prove. Or at the very least, how good your lawyer is.

Don't quote me on it, but I think you have to be LEO, or have a permit obtained by taking a training course. Your best bet is to call a couple lawyers and find out from them.

stick are nice and legal. plus you can ditch them and no one can trace them

I don't know the exact legality, but I remember back in school a friend of mine got in trouble wth the police for carrying one. They confiscated it and took him home. (We were in middle school).

I'm not interested in learning fist fighting or martial arts techniques. I'm interested in going about my daily/nightly business and if somebody tries to force any of my property from me or impedes my freedom in a threatening way I will go apeshit on them with a hardened metal pole that I can expand from my pocket hiding place. Using intimidation and force to steal from or harm what appears to be an unarmed person is for pussies, not fear.
I already walk softly, its the stick I lack. Notapillow, you can't fold up a stick and put it in your pocket. You also can't count on a stick to be there when you need it. Also, metal = harder than wood. I do not want to carry a gun either, as I usually have marijuana on me I can't mix the two offenses.
Daimyo, good advice, what kind of lawyer do you think I should call?
