Escalation has begun.  Next thing we know, unruly mobs are shooting at the president.

so what?  he didnt hurt anyone, didnt threaten anyone, or cause any problems.

nothing wrong with people exercising their right to bear arms.

it actually comforts me to know there are people out there who arent just rolling over and giving up their rights.

You are kidding right? These are peaceful law abiding citizens that are expressing their constitutional rights.

Nothing about that even hinted towards a violent outcome. Stop equating guns with violence. Jumping to retarded conclusions causes huge problems in this country, so stop doing it please.

A little worrying, but it's legal to openly carry guns in Arizona. Plus I'm sure he was a considerable distance from the President, and I'm certain that there was a crosshair on the guy the whole time

It may not be illegal, but it's really in poor taste.  It's sending a very violent and in many ways undemocratic message.  If I were the Secret Service, I would expand the secured area around these events.

I don't think that.  But I do think that openly carrying a gun in a situation like this is a dick move and has no place in civil society.

So basically you are arguing that they should expand into areas so that they can arrest and prosecute peaceful law abiding citizens?

For shame!

I think you're probably with most of America, being all rational and all.

My views are a little more extreme.

If you read the article, the venue is considered under federal control and thus state law doesn't apply.  It's the same concept as not allowing guns into court houses.

Dear God, not again

Quote:
A man toting an assault rifle was among a dozen protesters carrying weapons while demonstrating outside President Barack Obama's speech to veterans on Monday, but no laws were broken.......

In both instances, the men carrying weapons were outside the venues where Obama was speaking......

"We pay attention to this obviously ... to someone with a firearm when they open carry even when they are within state law," Donovan said. "We work with our law enforcement counterparts to make sure laws and regulations in their states are enforced"

There you go again Stretch, trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill.

He was no where near the President

Give up your tired fight to abolish the Constitution

How is it sending an 'undemocratic message'
The man did nothing more than exercise his Constitutional Rights

Then don't bear arms :flowstone:

If peaceful law abiding citizens want to enter the secured area, they can do so by leaving their firearms behind.  If I have a party at my house, I'm not allowing anyone to bring firearms inside.  For reasons that should be obvious to anyone with more than two brain cells, the same applies in much greater degree to the places the president visits.

P.S.  If you ever wanted to give the government an excuse to renew the assault weapons ban, this would be the perfect stunt to pull to get it done.  Good job you morons!

You can exercise your constitutional rights in a way that sends an undemocratic or anti-American messages.  Flag-burning, for instance.  The message this guy is sending is one of violence and intimidation, not one of civil discourse.

" The individuals would never have gotten in close proximity to the president, regardless of any state laws on openly carrying weapons, he said. A venue is considered a federal site when the Secret Service is protecting the president and weapons are not allowed on a federal site, he added.

"

So its pretty much the same as someone carrying a firearm outside of a courthouse and not on it's property. As long as it's legal, it's perfectly fine to do.

Honestly I completely respect the law (I stood up in another thread for the first guy that did this with a pistol), but I also wouldn't be again some law that says you can't just walk around with a gun within so and so proximity of the president.

If he's inside and isn't gonna be going near the group of protestors, fine, but if not shit could get very out of hand very easily.

The man was outside the Secret Services area of protection
Meaning...the President was in no danger

Trying to compare a private party with a public demonstration is kinda weak.
