Can/should you boil dehydrated shrooms?
    #1069689 - 11/20/02 01:53 PM (14 years, 19 days ago)

I picked some shrooms two days ago. They are wrapped up in a paperbag. Going to give them to a friend of mine tonight who will dehydrate them for me. That is if they are still good. I could not dry them properly. (spread out on a piece of paper or cardboard under a fan in a cool dark place.)

I ate some last night and now I am very sick to my stomach. Don't know if it is because the shrooms were a day old or because I ate some KFC that had been sitting on the counter for five hours. Could just be a stomach virus.

I've never heard of anybody boiling shrooms after they've been dehydrated. I'd rather drink them in some Koolaid than eat them in their dehydrated state, but the only shrooms I've ever boiled were fresh.

Don't boil them, the heat might break down the magic. Just powder them if you want to mix it into koolaide.

You might have gotten sick because of the KFC, and some people just get sick on shrooms. Oooooor you picked some shrooms that weren't the magic kind, and they made you sick. Try not to die.

Thanks for the response.

They were the magic kind. I've always eaten them either fresh or dehydrated, but never after they've been sitting in a plastic bag for two days. (Now they are in a paper bag) they looked a little wiltered, but I figured they would be alright. I've heard some people say that they can go bad after a few days and make people sick if they aren't dried properly.

The fact that they were sitting in a plastic bag for 2 days may have caused them to rot.

Wet mushroom in a plastic bad ais a no no. They will rot and fast.

Fresh mushrooms must be as soon as possible from picking. They will last fresh in the fridge for a bit, but still its best to dry them. Oxidize a lot faster fresh.

i always boil my shrooms, low heat for a short time(5min.) this does not degrade the potency and makes digestion fast and easy wich gives me what i want, a complete blast of psychedelia in the least possible time

yeah, boiling that shit will damage the psilocybin and psilocin if the water temp isnt at a low boil

I do the same thing. Anyone who says the heat will ruin the potency has never had mushroom tea. They come on so fast and hard you wont believe it.

Doubt boiling will destroy psilocybin. Psilocyn - yes, but there isn't much psilocyn in dried ones anyway, it's really fragile and breaks down quite massively during drying itself (that's why dry as fast as u can and don't use high temp/air flow).
If I'm not wrong, psilocybin breaks at around 140 Celcius or higher, have to check it though.
Also, oxygen is needed to speed the breakup.
When boil in water, temp never goes that high, and there is less oxydization than in the open air.
There's much confusion in this respect ranging from "don't boil at all, use warm water" to "boil it hard for 10-15 min to get all the goodies".
I plan to stage a set of tests myself in a couple of months when I have enough raw material to spare.
Will gladly report on the results, of course.
