Psilocybin (how hot can your tea get)

Lets try to put this to rest once and for all. My chenistry knowledge is limited but there are some really bright people in here.
NAME : Psilocybin CHEMICAL NAME : 3-[2-(Dimethylamino)ethyl]-1H-indol-4-ol dihydrogen phosphate ester ALTERNATE CHEMICAL NAMES : O-phosphoryl-4-hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine; Indocybin CHEMICAL FORMULA C12H17N2O4P MOLECULAR WEIGHT 284.25 MELTING POINT 220-228? C (Crystals from boiling water) MELTING POINT 185-195? C (Crystals from methanol) pH 5.2 (in 50% aq ethanol) LD50 285 mg/kg i.v.(mice) LD50 280 mg/kg i.v. (rats) LD50 12.5 mg/kg i.v.(rabbits) From the Merck Index 12th Edition
NAME : Psilocin CHEMICAL NAME : 3-[2-(Dimethylamino)ethyl]-1H-indol-4-ol ALTERNATE CHEMICAL NAMES : 4-hydroxy-N,N-dimethyltryptamine; psilocyn CHEMICAL FORMULA C12H16N2O MOLECULAR WEIGHT 204.27 MELTING POINT 173-176? C (plates from methanol) From the Merck Index 12th Edition
chemical properites of the good stuff, specificlly the melting points. Now, is the melting point the point at which the molecules break down? If so is that not the magic temp that you bring your tea up to before reducing the potency?
I may be way off base on this but an answer one way or the other would be ppreciated.

I chopped up 6g of dried B+ a few nights ago, put in a cup, poured almost boiling water over, stirred it a bit... put it in the freezer for 10 mins, drank it (ate the shrooms too) and was tripping balls within 20 minutes. I really wouldn't worry about losing potency, tea really works. Just don't boil the shrooms.

I have had experiences where I put ground up mushies in hot water for tea, and had all of a 20-minute trip, with good shrooms too. I would say, just to let the water cool until it is luke warm, then put in the mush. I think Zeta had good results because his were not ground up, so the stalk had acted as an insulator as not to destroy the majority of the alkaloids, but I?m sure he could have had a better trip if he had not used such hot water.

Believe me, what I had was a 6g trip. Sometimes it's nice not to have to wait an hour for the trip to kick in. I don't think making tea wastes any of the alkaloids. I was tripping for a good 6 hours.

That?s cool, I make mushrooms in juice with a blender; I have since stopped making tea, at least really hot tea anyway. I was saying from experience that I noticed a considerable loss in potency when I prepared it this way. 6 grams is quite a bit, 4 grams in Grapefruit Juice will send me into ego death, every time. It seems the natural ingredients in the Grapefruit Juice help metabolize the alkaloids.

You're quite right, I think I will do that from now on. No point in risking our precious psiloc(yb)in eh

Melting point is the temperature at which the substance melts. If it decomposes at that temperature, then that would be noted (something like 185? C (dec.)).
As far as how hot you can get your water, the boiling point of water is 100? Celsius (a bit lower if you're much above sea level). Unless you boil your water in a pressure cooker it will not be possible to get anywhere near the melting point of psilocybin.
Of greater concern is the fact that psilocin breaks down chemically if the water is basic. If you make tea, add a little lemon juice (or something else acidic) to ensure that it isn't basic.

Psilocybins melting point is around 430*F boiling water is 212*F... do the math...
