In the mushroom information section on this page it tells you how extract the goodies out of shrooms by using 200 proof alcohol on dry shrooms, does anyone know if this technique would work for fresh shrooms?

it would work, but you would also end up taking out the water. so just dry them first. you can also use water to extract the essence...it all depends on what you are extracting for.

I have gotten to the stage where just the smell of dried or fresh shrooms almost makes me puke. I used to be able to eat them easily... but now its getting real difficult to munch em down, thats why i want to extract the active compounds.. and have about 3 -5 grams in about 1-2cc's of alcohol, put it in some OJ and then no more yukky shroom taste.

i'd have to agree, the smell and taste of dried mushrooms is pretty nasty.

i would still suggest drying the shrooms, only because there's alot of water in them and after extracting, a good percentage of your extract will be water. if you want to evaporate the extract down to a crystal-like form after extracting, the water will hinder the whole process by leaving a dense, 'tar' stage. but if your not going to evaporate, and just want a psychedelic liquid to pour into the oj, it won't hurt..

oh ok... i just want to condense it down so i can barely taste anything at all.. the alcohol i have at the moment isnt quite 200 proof, more like 190 proof, so there is water in it anyway, all that matters to me is if ii have a small amount of liquid but highly concentrated.. cant the water be evaporated as well?

the water can be evaporated, but it will take a while. if you can find methanol, that's even better. you can even use plain water for the extract. ethyl is good.

It has been a while, and my chemisty is rusty, but I don't think this works very well. Ethanol, the type of alcohol that we drink, is not a very good solvent in this case. Methanol, another type of alcohol that will poison you if you drink it, will work much better. You must be sure to evaporate all of the methanol after the extraction.

is there even such a thing as 200 proof alcohol? i've never seen higher than 190.

In my experience with alcohol extraction you won't be able to get 3 - 5g worth of extract into 1 or 2 cc's. The goodies will become unsoluble and precipitate in such a concentration...

And the alcohol will also extract the chemicals which give mushrooms their taste, making your extract taste a lot nastier than plain shrooms.

You can make the extraction and load the gunk extract into capsules or mold it into balls or pills though...That way you won't feel their taste and have a good dose concentrated into 2 mushroom pills or one mushroom gelcap.

You can make 200 proof alcohol in the lab, but you won't find it on the shelf of your supermarket. Alcohol loves to absorb water... 190 proof is 95% which is about as good as it gets without a lot of extra effort.

Its been noted that when using ethanol, an solution with water will extract better then anhydrous. Methanol is a different case however. Everclear 180 proof will work well for extraction, and you can evaporate down to 1 or 2 CCs. Even if parcipitants are formed, you can just mix them in. The taste if mixed with OJ will not be that bad, a shroomy-earthy taste, like button mushrooms, not shit.

THis is really stupid things to do with shrooms. IT is bad enough that we are getting more attention then needed.

Today in Oregon they busted kids with Chocolate candied shrooms at twnety dollars a chocolate.

This brings the natural shrooms bad raps and nbow yourt talking of chemical extractions.

There is no need for that shit.

Sorry but sometimes you shroomers have really strange thoght processes floating aeround in your nort to educated brains.

EWake up. Shit like this brings heat on everyone who likes natural highs. Why ruin something by bringing this to this forum.
