More Subb Vs Foe ID
    #10501937 -

Probably pretty pointless posting this, but it's worth a shot. I know it's pretty difficult to tell the difference between Foes and Subbs without a print (which I am working on), but I am hoping maybe someone can tell me some info. I gathered probably a hundred or so Subbs/Foes in a really big manicured lawn today, seperating them as best as I could into 4 different types. They all look the same, however one has a grayish to brown cap, another has a dark brown cap, one has a smooth walnut cap, and the other has a redish brown cap with a slightly thicker stem. All of them from what I have gathered are either Subbs or Foes.

I am printing about 15 right now, but to be sure of the rest, should I print them all? It's a lot of mushroom as you can see from the pics. I know the answer is most likely yes, just trying to avoid some work . I have them all laying on foil right now with more foil covering them on top, will this be alright for the night if I take the rest of the prints tomorrow?

Here are some (crappy) pictures. Let me know what you think if you can gather anything without the prints. Thanks

Not sure if you used a cell phone cam or a digi cam but if it happens to have macro mode (the one with the flower) press that button and try to get an auto-focus closeup. The details really help! Nice finds btw, even if it turns out inactive.

Unfortunately my digital camera is broken so I had to use my iPhone. Starting to hunt gives me a good incentive I think to finally fix it haha. Thanks though, I was surrounded by two small festivals going on with cops parked right by and tons of people walking near. I just pretended to be looking for my lost glasses...

Just print them all, it's simple and really the best way to tell. I found some subbs that I could swear were foes last night but the print was jet black so they're good.

I've been finding a ton of foes lately,  one tip I picked up is to look at the gills.  If the gills hang down below the margin of the cap it is most likely a foe.  this combined with the spore print (brown=foe, BLACK BLACK=sub)  seems to give a pretty definitive ID.

please wait for a trusted IDer before eating though:tongue:

def be sure to givem time to print enough, thin spore prints are hard to tell between foes-dark dark brown and subs-Jet Black. My buddy ate about 100 foes in a day thinking they were subs, although he didn't get diarrhea like we expected, it was still embarrassing.

Haha wow. I actually thought about doing something similar. Patience is a real bitch. I placed them all to get prints about an hour ago so I guess tomorrow will be filled with much anticipation. I'll be sure to share the results :mushroom2:
