Okay, I did some looking, and from what I can tell, Ariocarpus *is* a genus of cacti, at least one of which is hallucinogenic, and *similar* in appearance to peyote (though not terribly similar).  There is also a Lophophora williamsii that has been described as jourdaniana, but does not actually appear to be a separate species (if Wikipedia knows anything). However, there does not appear to be a Ariocarpus jourdaniana.

The Ariocarpus genus seems to be exceedingly rare, and I would doubt that what is being advertised is really an Ariocarpus (especially if it's the one being auctioned on that big site where things are auctioned).  Likely it is a Lophophora williamsii with a pink bloom, which is nifty and all, but not particularly rare/unique.

this is really common, lophophora plants are often sold under different genus names on certain popular auction sites.

True, several vendors shipping within the US have been known to label them as Astros in order to make shipping a little less suspicious.

Yeah. Most often times a search of keywords like cactus, cacti, loph, lophophora yields no results for lophophora. BUT by searching under astrophytum, ariocarpus, aztekium, and lewenii you will definetly get positive results :wink:

Honestly, I'm beginning to think they don't really care about peyote anymore. People do not grow it for consumption, and if they do they aren't too bright.

A few cacti are the least of their worries really. The feds are more concerned with the big boys than a few cacti enthusiast.

I have to agree with that. No one really minds a few cacti here and there as long as people aren't flaunting it in the faces of the law, and as long as they aren't doing anything really stupid with the cacti either.
