Cultivators in Finland?

Hi,

I'm wondering whether there are any cultivators in Finland who have ordered spore syringes before? I'm considering ordering a spore syringe from one of the Shroomery sponsors (as they could be trusted.) My concern is due to the international shipping and customs. I'm sure that a syringe and needle containing some liquid must look suspect on an X-ray.

So my question is: has someone ordered a spore syringe successfully after 1 September 2008? Also whether the spores/syringes themselves might be considered illegal in Finland?

Ordering spore prints is also an option and you can a/ find a syringe at a finnish feed store or b/ work from agar with it

Thanks for your reply. I decided that ordering a spore print on paper would be the best way. As far as I know, it would just show as a normal letter just like the thousands sent every day. The only way to identify it would be to either open it (unlikely for the previous reason) or look at the return address (also unlikely due to the number of letters sent.)

I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable buying a syringe from a store in person, but they could always be ordered at a later date. That's another question... Strictly hypothetically, would it be possible to inoculate PF tek cakes by just cutting out a section of the paper spore print, and putting it along the sides of the jar where you would normally inoculate with liquid from the spore syringe? Perhaps moisten the paper with some distilled or boiled water first?

I think this would work fine.

Order a print, and then order printer ink refill syringes.  They have blunt tips, so they can't be called drug paraphernalia and are legal.

The spore print was received fine. :cool: I did not open the envelope yet as I'm not setup with a glovebox/alcohol/anti-bacterial soap (saw this as the pharmacy today, but didn't think to buy any) yet.

I did hold the envelope up to a light, and I can see the spore print inside. It's smaller than I thought - but I suppose that makes sense; you want to start printing the mushroom before it's fully mature and already dropping spores.

So I have just left the envelope unopened inside the middle of a loosely folded magazine. It's about the best I can do until getting a glove box setup. I suppose that since it has (hopefully) made it through the postal system without contamination, sitting in my clean apartment should be fine.

So there are a few things I have to go out and buy but at least now I have the (what I perceived to be) the hardest component to get: the spores.

You should be able to open it up without contaminating it, its either on folded up foil, or it will be an open faced print in a ziplock bag.

Its probably from a smaller mushroom. My 2 most receint prints  have been fairly large arout 5 inches across. Caps will drop spores from after the veil breaks right throught ill they flatten out and probably longer as long as they dont dry out.

Even a smallish print should do atleast a few syringes.

I specifically asked for a print on paper (they provided foil or paper options) but yes, hopefully it will be inside a zip-lock bag. My concern/paranoia about foil is metal shows up on an X-ray.

Well, actually, I do not have any syringes yet. My plan was to (in a glove box that has been thoroughly aerosolized with disinfectant) take some flame sterilized scissors, and cut a small piece from the spore print to put into the jar.

My "back-up" plan is to just order an alcohol lamp and box of syringes online. However, I'm almost positive the syringes would draw attention... adding with an alcohol lamp and I'm sure customs would be very interested in me (probably looking for Heroin or whatever.)

You can make an alcohol lamp pretty easily, or use a small blotorch, or a lighter with a fast burning flame. The ones that have a blue flame.

Dont need to sterilise your 'still air box' just clean it with soapy water. Close up and leave 10 minutes for everything to settle, put your stuff inside, and allow 10 minutes to settle and go to work.

wear gloves, clean them  with 70% IPA. tyvek sleaves or a freshly laundered long sleeve top.

I think I may be able to pickup a small "pencil" butane blow torch at the hardware store, where I also need to buy a drill, drill bits, and a set of hole saws (for making the hand holes in the glove box.)

Since I'm planning to do some home renovation (as far as the store assistant is concerned) I will be needing a packet of dust masks (protection against breathing on anything.) and some cotton coveralls or wrist sleeves for doing some painting.

I'm not sure that I can get 70% IPA here. I can get 40% Vodka which may be good enough. It's my understanding that those distilleries basically go as high as they can >90%, then add water to the final product to make it drinkable (and within limits of the law.)

It is unfortunate for me that I do not have any of these common household items yet. I guess most people own a drill and bits for those odd jobs around the house... I don't yet, but I think there is a set from Black & Decker on sale which looks good.

Ok, so after doing some further looking inside the envelope with a bright light behind it, my curiosity got the best of me and I did open it.

It seems everything is in order. There is a spore print sealed in a zip-lock bag (which I hardly even touched, let alone opened.) The print is on paper, and appears to be closed-faced (eg the spores are inside the folded over paper.)

I did see some black spores in the corner of the zip-lock bag, too. I'm looking forward to this project. :-)

RR was corrrect about the syringe in the printer ink refill. I bought one rcently and was plesantly suprizd to find a large syringe with a long needle in the box for refilling the cartridge.
This was a black ink refill kit for an HP printer. You might want to look into that option as It would greatly increase your odds of success.

Hmm, interesting... I already have a pretty long shopping list though. The spore print should be fine kept in safe (dry, dust/draft free) conditions for about a month. I've heard of people saying they can keep for many months or even years.

Hopefully I can knock most of the items off the list this week.
