Can syringes be sent as envelopes?

Hey all,
Sorry if this isnt cultivation but i just need a quick yes or no. If you send 1 syringe(for a trade) in a bubble envelope can you send it as a normal envelope? My friend said that the extra weight of the syringe has to be sent as a package, this true?
Thanks, Fd
ps- Mod can delete this once i get a yes/no...

Yes, but it will require extra postage and it's not a good idea because it could get spuged in the mail. Use a box.

Actually boxes get thrown around MUCH more in the mail system then envelopes. Also customs(im in Canada, trader is in US) checks boxes, not envelops so that would save me some trouble.
If customs saw a syringe with no lable would they stop it? Fd

No, Canada Customs can check *anything* over 30g in weight without your consent. Even an envelope that weighs more than 30g as it's then considered a parcel and not a letter.
FYI.

The silo wet in the envelope will give the postal service an Idea of what?s in the envelope. Curiosity killed the cat, and the postal service is very curious. Besides, the syringe will probably loose all of it?s spore solution during transit.
I would recommend using a box to be on the safe side

I have syringes sent trans-continental in a Jiffy Bag (padded envelope) all the time without problem. Sometimes one syringe, sometimes more.

P.S: took me a while to figure out what "silo wet" meant!!!

Mushroom madness whats "silo"?
My idea was, an envelop has no walls or corners. If the syringe was hit around in the box(which will happen) it would hit against the side of the box and loose spores. An envelope has no corners at all and envelopes tend to land flat when moved around, boxes can land any direction when moved.
Also boxed are thrown around way more than envelopes. I have recieved many syringes through envelopes and they were all 100% fine.

Listen guys, I've been using padded envelopes to send spore syringes around the world for 6 years. They work perfectly fine, very, very rarely is there a problem.
Don't let anybody tell you otherwise, I've proved it over the years!
Lettermail in Canada is not that which weighs less than 30 gs. My padded packets are sent as letter mail in Canada because they fit in a regular mailslot even though they might weigh over 100 gs. US is different, these packets get a 'small packet' label in that case.

Max...
The 30g mention is for CUSTOMS inspection for items coming into Canada. Anything that weighs less than 30g CANNOT be opened without the addressees consent by law. Anything over 30g can immediately be opened by Customs.
Someone who is not me used to have pills mailed to him in a regular envelope and Customs would send little notes to him asking if they could open the envelopes that they found

Sorry boxtop, but Max always sends me syringes in bubblewrap envelopes and I've yet to see ANY problems whatsoever. And I live in a building with those tiny mailboxes where the mailman deforms every piece of mail to get it in.
Maybe I've been lucky? I doubt it. I just think the chances are pretty slim of there being enough lateral force. Even with renegade mailpersons...

Inspected by Canada Customs or US Customs?
Did the entire thing weigh over 30g?

From the Canada Customs Act:
Section 99(1)(b) of the Customs Act states:
"An officer may . . . at any time up to release, examine any mail that has been imported and, subject to this section, open or cause to be opened any such mail that he suspects on reasonable grounds contains any goods referred to in the Customs Tariff, or any goods the importation of which is prohibited, controlled or regulated under any other Act of Parliament..."
This section also provides an "Exception for mail":
"99(2) An officer may not open or cause to be opened any imported mail that weighs thirty grams or less unless the person to whom it is addressed consents..."

BTW....Priority envelopes such as Xpresspost are technically a COURIER service and not letter mail.

If you put a stiff piece of cardboard in the envelope with the syringe, that should stop the pluger getting pushed.

I will have to argue with you on that statement. CUSTOMS WILL SEARCH ENVELOPES>
This is a envelope that FSRE sent me and it came through Customs coming into the U.S.
As you can see Customs did open it. They apparently saw that it was legal spores and they put the spores back in the envelope and sealed it up with that Green Flourescent Tape that says EXAMINED BY U.S. CUSTOMS>
The envelope was delivered with the regular mail.
Have to say that gave me a scare!!!!!!!!!!!!
So I have to say Customs will check anything!

huh?? I assume there was a print in the envelope. why would customs have reason to believe it was anything other than a letter? so they open the envelope and see a dodgy looking piece of dirty tinfoil.. how are they going to have any idea what it is? did they actually open the print?

Well even if customs does open the envelope they cant do anything. Should i put a lable on the syring so it sais what it is? They might think its liquid anthrax or something.....
My order from Sporeworks(4 PR syinges) was opened and checked my customs. The customs label read " Mushroom culture in sterile saline solution in blunt tipped pippette".
Are lables nessesairy on the syringe stating what is in it?

There were 3 prints in this envelope. THe prints were on a index card. Each print was in its own tiny little zip lock bag. The customs apparently opened the envelope, the opened the prints and resealed everything and sent it on to me.
I assume they took samples of the spores.
The whole situation sucks. Hell you dont know if they are watchin ya or not.
I will not order any more spores from out of the united states again.!!!!!!!!!!!!

In reply to:
I assume they took samples of the spores.
Why do you assume this?? There aren't any spore prints that are illegal, only places where some aren't legal, so if it was an oyster print or a psilocybe cubensis print, it makes no difference to them. Even if they did take samples, the only way to know what sort of mushroom they're from, is for an expert mycologist to look at them under a microscope, or to grow them.
Good luck
