I think psychology is a discipline that is divided.

On one side there are scientific and research oriented psychologists who study things in a methodical nature, and come up with models and paradigms that describe and predict (to some extent) human behavior.  These models can be used to help people as you say, and increase our wisdom about the human experience.

On the other side are spiritualists and mystics who I think bring the discipline down.  They are the reason psychology isnt taken as seriously as it should be by overshadowing real research with their nonsense.  For some reason psychology attracts these kinds of people, but fortunately the required statistics class usually prevents them from getting a degree.

I would hardly describe psychology as a hotbed for mystics.  Of all medical professionals, psychologists are the least likely to profess belief in God, while medical doctors(especially ones who attend to people who are dying) are the most likely to do so.

Psychology is not a medical profession.  Psychiatry and therapy however are.

Regardless, Im not even talking about a belief in god or the spirit.  Im talking about M&P style mystics, ones who believe that crystals have energies and the like.

Yeah some of it some stuff is kinda WTF and some has been replaced by neuroscience and other stuff is interesting. They don't know everything yet and maybe never will.

Maybe eventually neuroscience will know everything and there won't be a need for psychology but until then it's needed some people need someone to talk to basically even if a psychologist can't really do anything to help them they can at least help them help themselves

and I'd only do LSD with a psychiatrist I really trusted to be honest I mean if this dude knows the real me and has gotten past all my BS and games then yeah I could trust him/her to do it I just got issues trusting people with something like LSD that's just shit I wouldn't do because I don't trust chemicals like that at all. I mean because I don't really know what it really is unlike shrooms or salvia or DMT which are natural and easy to identify.

When you take psychology in school, you get the philosophy of the professor. The answers are black and white. When you get out into the world of psychiatrists and psychologists it's a veiled association of cliques and camps.  If you want to do business you pick your group and stick with it.  For instance if you want to be a Humanist you have many groups to choose from.  Some use drugs, some don't.  And so on... .  I think most of them Have egos that keep them from doing a good job. They are so worried about the symptoms, that they have no idea what the cause is!

in my opinion psychology has come up with some damn good ideas, but I think docs do too much guesswork. I mean, you can try to fit people into the schitzo model or passive agressive model or w.e, but everyone is different and i think people get misdiagnosed alot. I mean, how can you know for sure what's going on in someone's head?

What do you mean by easy to identify?  It's a semi-synthetic chemical anyway; the whole natural vs. manmade distinction is illusory.  I personally think LSD is a far superior entheogen to shrooms, for example.

Me too, but I think he means that with LSD, you don't really know what you're getting unless you have a reliable supplier, whereas with mushrooms, it's pretty much straightforward.

To me, psychology seems to consist mainly of wannabe scientists giving complex names to intuitive concepts to make themselves seem smart

Psychology is great as long as you don't pay for it.
Don't pay to learn it.
Don't pay to have someone use it on you.
But bandy it about for free all you want.

I think it would be ideal not to have to pay for any kind of learning and knowledge, but we're not living in this ideal, and reality is different.
There's information that one has access to only if they pay, and I think that it is completely worthy if one knows what to pick. The people who are providing that information have to earn a living too, you know.
