What happens if you meditate on the crown chakra before the others?

I keep reading that you should meditate on the other chakras first before meditating on the crown chakra because you need a firm foundation. What happens if you don't have a firm root?

I have studied chakra meditations for many years along with qigong and am a certified rank 2 reiki healer, and all I have to say is, unless you plan on spending many hours JUST concentrating on the crown (in which case it would be beneficial to concentrate on the other areas from the root up first), it's all a matter of personal preference. You will get gains and peace through any mindful or chakra meditation.

As for if you want to keep it traditional...It helps to work your way from the root up through the chakras because it's almost an evolution of meditation haha. You start at the root, because it is the seat of basic human potentiality and instincts, as well as a few deep emotions, then moving to the sacral chakra, which governs reproduction and a few other basic emotions, then to your solar plexus chakra which governs your digestion as well as physical and mental growth, then to the great bridging point! the heart center. Here is where unconditional love and self are seated. Now onward to the upper chakras! first the throat chakra which governs artistic creativity and communication in a large part, then to the brow or third eye, which governs your intuition and allows for more inter-spiritual connections with ones own subconscious and "inner-god", and finally to your crown or the thousand petal lotus, a most beautiful connection to the "God" whatever you perceive it to be.

As you can see meditating from the bottom up allows a sort of natural evolution of meditation, like how man evolved. Start with the animal instincts, then to reproducing and emotions, then to growing both mentally and physically, and then creating a connection with self and others which allows "access" to the higher level of one's own self (some people choose to stop at the heart level until they finally feel they have opened it, before choosing to move to any upper level chakra meditations) then comes creativity, communication, and basic spirituality, from there we go to look into ourselves for answers, and then finally we connect with "God".

Like I said, it's all up to you and what you feel is right. Personally, if I have time I like to go from the root up, but if I just have a few minutes here or there I just concentrate on whatever area I feel needs the most attention at that time, or is out of balance.

Your experience will be less comfortable, less pleasurable, less empowering, etc. It's good to at least be comfortable. I agree with Funkadelic.

IMO it does not matter what chakkra you meditate on.
I prefer the tip of the nose because it is really very non-chakkra like so I don't get hung up on extraneous and irrelevant "meanings" and just do the work.

but sometimes it is fun to play around with energy.
