Same fruiting chamber? Cakes and cases...

I've seen pics and explinations of some setups some people here use, and often casings and cakes are put in the same fruiting chamber.

All the FAQs I read suggest that this is a bad idea because the optimal fruiting conditions of the two substrates is different (i.e. humidity).

I'm just looking for some opinions here. Wouldn't it be better to have two different fruiting chamber setups for each substrate?

they have different humidity requirements and shouldn't be together, as far as i understand.

You can take a look at a dozens of pics of fruiting chambers posted on this board that contain cakes AND casings. I'll link one for you. Do a search - there are many more.

I've been told that casings need the same humidity as cakes only until they pin, at which time it needs to be lower. To save space I've had to put my casings and cakes in the same chamber and I've noticed a difference in fruiting on the casings. They seem to fruit less in high humidity....but thats just my experience, I wasnt performing a scientific test or anything  :crazy:

Casings do best at 85%-92% humidity. Cakes do best at 95%-100% humidity. Albeit you'll still get each to grow in different ranges, but best results will be obtained by following these guidelines.
