Fruiting Chamber idea & humidification Ques.

I've made an incubation chamber by getting a large, see-through rubbermaid container and filling the bottom with a few inches of water. There's an aquarium heater under the water. I've made a styrofoam shelf that sits about an inch above the water, on which I've placed all my jars.
Anyway, I was thinking that it could probably double for a good fruiting chamber as well. With the water in the bottom, the lid on and the temperature around 27 deg C it would be - to my mind - ideal mushroom growing conditions. I could birth the cakes right onto the styrofoam shelf (covered with alfoil).
I'm a beginner so there may be something wrong with this, but I can't pick it. What do you guys think?
Is there such a thing as a humidity gauge? If so, Where can I get one and what is the ideal humidity for growing?

That sounds good to me.. you may want to put some H2O2 in the water so it doesnt contam. And yes you can buy Hygro meters at radio shack and wallmart.

only problem with that idea is.. that all your jars would have to be birthed on the same day. if you have the space.. and will be continuing with your buddies.. then you migjht as well buy another tupperware... i would say :P

What's H202? Is it Chlorine? How much do I put in? If it's not chlorine, where do I get it (and what is it?)
What if I don't want to birth all the cakes at the same time? How can I store them so the mycelium doesn't die and will last a few weeks?

Its hydrogen peroxide and you can get it anywhere. Dont they also sell stuff at pet stores to keep water free from nastys? I'm not sure if that could be harmfull as vapor though. All in all you have a good idea.

How much Hydro Peroxide needs to go in the water? Are you sure that this will not effect the mushrooms or mycelium? Especially considering the setup I've detailed in my original post!

No H202 won't hurt the mycelium or mushrooms. I wouldn't get any directly on 'em though. I've never had a bad experience with it. I even put bleach in my water but my jars are sealed inside another rubbermaid container stiting in the water. Maybe some more thoughts on this would be helpful.
As far as how much it really depends on how much water you have in your tub. I never really measure, I just pour out 4 cap fulls and dump it in the 1-2 gallons of water I have in there. Again, some more feedback would be nice so Wombat can weigh everyone's thoughts and come to his/her own conclusion.

Okay, I'm confident that the peroxide will not effect them during the incubation process, it's the fruiting that I'm worried about. If cakes are birthed into the incubation/fruiting chamber as I described in the first post and the water/peroxide mixture is used to provide the humidity then I'm worried that it may - at the least - stunt the growth of the budding mushrooms.
I've mixed up a very diluted peroxide mix (maybe 1 part peroxide to 50 or more parts water). Only one way to find out, I guess.

Ok this is how it works mycleum can turn hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen how I don't know but thats how they do the hydrogen peroxide agar thingy. h202= h20 (water) thatleaves one o oxygen I failed science so I'm not sure thats how that works but I know they turn it into water and air. hope I helped.

If it's not in that brown bottle, peroxide will break down pretty fast just from light. Supposedly distilled water that has been opened for 48 hrs or more isn't even safe for human consumption. So it wouldn't hurt to give standing water, perlite, or humidifier resivoir, a couple of good sloshes. every few days. Some spray a solution of h2o2 and h2o directly onto mycelia to try to kill visible contams. (sparingly). It is not a good thing to let h2o2 come directly into contact with healthy mycelia.
