Pic of a new fruiting chamber.

Here is a pic of my buddy's fruiting chamber.
It's a sterlite box (kinda like rubbermaid) that was painted black on the bottem, and lower sides, with perlite for humidity. There are also 5/8" holes drilled in each end just above the perlite layer to allow for CO2 exhaust, and in the center a 4" PVC tube that is capped on the bottem (the end in the perlite) which reaches to the top of the box. This is filled 1/2 with H2O and H2O2, and has an airstone in it from an airpump outside the chamber to add some more O2. There are holes drilled in the top of the tube to allow for air and RH to pass, but to prevent water droplets from spraying out and landing on the cakes or casings. (was just in a cup before, but the water was starting to cover the closest cakes)
Just thought you guys might want to see what my buddy came up with. Feel free to comment, and I can pass them along.

Those are straws, used to keep the cakes hydrated. Just keep them full.

My buddy tells me that the perlite and bubbler keep it at a constant 96%-97% humidity.
And yes, the straws are just a method of making a water reserviour for the cakes, since he didn't dunk them before the first flush.
Hopefully he isn't trying too many different things, and inviting disaster. He should probably stop fooling around with them and let them grow but hey, you only live once.
What do you guys think? Should this all work out fairly well?
Oh, and he's growing Equadors and Thai Lipi Yai.

One thing that I noticed was that when the cakes were on foil (my buddy did that at first), some of the pins started growing downwards since they were getting reflected light from that direction. So instead he folded some saran wrap and used that under the cakes instead. (just big enough to extend beyond the cake by about a 1/4")
The temp stays around 75 degrees, and the RH around 96%, so it sounds the same as yours. There was just one cake raring to go, the others are about 1 week behind it.
This is also my buddy's first time trying this, so he/we are learning too.
Looks like your setup should work fine, just fan it a couple times a day, and everything should go as planned.
Have a good one.

Thanks much, it's nice to have some feedback. It really wasn't that hard or expensive, and it's as much fun to watch the process come along as the final product will be.
My buddy thanks you for your comments.
Have a good one.

Oh, and as for the straws Malibu:
He just had 3 straws still in the paper wrapper. He cut them in 1/2, and pushed them in about an inch or so. He did mention to use a nice strong straw like from Arby's or Jack in the Box...something that won't fold when you try to push it in. He didn't bother drilling a hole or anything, just pushed it in a bit till it was firm, but not all the way through.
He did notice a significant decrease in water in the one cake that is currently pinning strong, so it sure seemed like it's getting used.
I'm sure the dunking process would work well, probably even better, but he had already put them in the chamber, so he figured this would work well for the first try.
Have a good one.

Malibu,
As long as you keep flushing the C02 out by fanning SEVERAL times a day, that should produce for you. Looks like you've read a lot and paid attention to the details that count.

I cant really add anything to this thread... however all I do is place the cakes right on the perlite. This way the cakes are nearlly always hydrated

Reason: 17 year old thread. And why would you want to repeat those shit results anyway.
