Well either try some different teks out or be more specific on what your situation exactly is. I say go for the 50/50 + tek.

Do you have a way to pasteurize some dung or compost? If so, you would be amazed at the results.

Hey buddy, I'm just as much of a fan of the poo as you are, but I think its important to take baby steps. Having never grown before, I don't think he would completly understand it if he jumped right into poo, hehehe sounds funny. I think you should try a couple of casings before moving on to poo, but thats just my opinion.

Do you got a pot, water, a burner, a weight, a pillow case, a timer, and a candy thermometer? If so, you can pasteurize. In fact, some people prefer past. to sterlilization. Don't ask me which one I like, I'm still confused.

some people don't heat the casing material at all. my friend put it all together with a little too much water and than cooked it covered in an oven at 375 degrees for an hour. good results, no contams.

yes. 50/50+ cooked in a pyrex dish in the oven with aluminum foil covering it.
50/50+ is 50 percent peat/50 percent vermiculite and a small amount of hydrated lime (or other basifier). the recipe is linked from the casing FAQs.

Putting something in the oven and baking it is a form of sterilization, in the post you said no sterilization needed.

no. it is -not- sterile after it's done. and i said it's not needed because some people don't do it. my friend did it just in case.

What do you mean its not sterile after its done? If its been in the oven @ 350 degrees for an extended period of time it is.

if that were the case, don't you think we'd all be 'sterlizing' our stuff in an over instead of a pressure cooker? why would doctors ever use an autoclave when they could just use an oven?

and now i will eat my words. from the FAQs:
With oven sterilization similar problems arise as with the microwave: The heat conduction of dry air compared to steam (as in the pressure cooker and a covered pot of boiling water) is much smaller - therefor the sterilization time has to be longer -> this dries out the substrate. Raising the temperature of the oven much over 212?F will dry the substrate even further. Colonizing substrate needs adequate water to colonize, otherwise it either won't start or will halt mid colonization.
There is a workaround though that eliminates the problem of drying the jars out: Get yourself a casserole with a lid, put the jars in and add water 1/2 of the height of the jars, and put in oven at 350?F for at least one hour. Better 90 minutes to be sure. Check for the water level during the procedure, don?t let the water completely evaporate. This sterilisation method is equally good than boiling or steaming in a pot with lid. ----------------------------
but back to the original issue: you don't have to cook your 50/50+. i base this solely on the fact that so many people have said they don't do it and still get no contams.

Ouch, I knew that something sounded off in your argument, but you are a good man for admitting defeat. Props to you. As far as not having too, I agree that its possible, but I think you may be better off pasteurizing or sterilizing 50/50 mix. But I say tomato, you say tomahto.
