I tried that tek and everything was going well until it started to fruit, them BAM green mold. so i dont know if it was my fault or his. but i would definately sterilize the bags of soil before casing them.

i wouldn't use soil. especially cheap soil, (like budget soil from K-mart for 99 cents), its too clumpy when its wet . if your gonna use soil, use a peat based soil like Pro mix (i love that stuff for my house plants). that should work well.

I've read that straight vermiculite can work as a casing. I'm not sure if it holds as much water as other casings like the 50-50 mix so your yield may not be as good. I've also heard that since vermiculite has nothing in it for the bugs to eat that it is less prone to contamination and is good to use if it's your first time casing.

Yes, I've been eating them, for six or seven weeks now, haven't got sick once.

Vermiculite will work, but try using dung or manure compost, you will like the results!!!

Do you mix anything with the dung, other than water of course? Should I sterilize it? I have a couple pounds of cow poop right now and some jars that are almost ready.

if i were you, i'd just use his jar recipie, and sterilization techniques with a pot (if you don't have a PC), but do a verm only casing for your first try. it is almost impossible to fuck up a verm casing, it wards off contams like nothin' else, and as long as you keep it moist enough it'll give you nice results - a great way to go for a first-timer imho. i'm not sure if the wizard has modified his tek, but you'll want to make sure you put a layer of dry verm on the top of your substrate jars before you sterilize them, this will help to keep contams from entering through your syringe hole on the top and contaminating your jars before they are colonized. just make sure you don't make the verm layer so deep that the syringe won't be able to reach the substrate layer.
good luck on your project
and for a good verm only casing tek, go here

hi geokills. I've been to that site a lot and i started the preparations for a simple casing like that but i was wondering if you think that the mushrooms in the last picture are actually grown in that straight verm casing? they look beautiful and as for quantity i think thats a pretty nice flush. If i could grow as much as one mushroom that looks that good, i'd be more than happy!
how many cakes do u think are in that casing and what strain could it be?

that last picture is entirely possible, however whoever did that casing had one hell of an even pin-set. they probably used a better substrate in that casing (not brf, but something like birdseed possibly). either way, if you make a 2-3" substrate layer with a 0.3" casing layer, you'll get a nice lot of shrooms for sure
