You WILL need a pressure cooker if you want to try grains.  But for PF flour jars, if your having good luch just boiling, then stick with it

Get the largest pressure cooker that you can afford that will go to 15 lbs.  That's my advice.

Pressure cookers work great. Grain is nice too cuz the shaking makes it colonize in ten days, how lomg for BRF cakes? 20 days?

Pressure cookers co$t.

My friend took to pressure cooking grains for 1h 15min at 15psi, even though it USED to work when he did it for 45 mins. Now, it's 1h15min or contams all the time. Hmm, grain must be dirtier these days...

Exactly.  Now think of the time it would take to colonize a quart of PF substrate.  Longer than the 20 days you quote I would presume.

>>>All-American All the way!!!!<<<

He is damn right!
I spit out, I think it was $115 for the 915 model (15.5) quart.
And it is like a member of my myco family. Worth every penny.

Yeah, like all the above have said, get an AA. If you go to ebay and do a pressure cooker seach (make sure you check the box that says check title and description) you can usually find some good deals. I got on from ebay for like $50 shipping included. Well worth it.

Yeah, or try some local second-hand shops. My pressure cooker works great, it fits 8 quart jars and has a pressure gauge, it is 'Presto' brand and I scored it from the red cross store for $7.50 NZ (Or about $3.00 US). Just hunt around. This one was in the back room, but I saw another shittier pressure cooker in the shop and I was gonna buy that one, but then the lady mentioned this one and for that price I couldn't say no! Pressure cookers are cool!

if you're on a tighter budget, i'd suggest the mirro 8 quart canner/pressure cooker: http://www.pressurecooker-outlet.com/mirro8qt.htm

walmart has it cheaper than on that link. it gets to 15 psi and holds up to 8 1/2 pints. it's not an all american, but it gets the job done. there is a larger size if you want to do more jars at once, but walmart didn't have it when my friend went and looked.
