I wouldn't go to that school if I were you, all I've heard are bad things about it.  I'd go to a good community college first, since you can practically go there free with federal grants.  You would get a better education

I wouldn't recommend doing that, no sense moving to CA if you are going to live out in the republican areas where its really hard to find any signs of intelligent life.

Don't go any further south than Monterey, don't go any further east than Oakland.  Avoid San Jose and all the other cities that suck. 

The nicer places also have jobs that pay quite a bit more, so it's not as expensive as it seems.  Renting out a room in a cool house is the way to go.  (craigslist)  I know some really awesome people in Oakland who are looking for permanent roommates that are really cool.

Pennsylvania has apartments like that too in some rural areas.  Very very nice clean places too. 

But I can understand that you want to move to California, much better weather and scenery there.  I'm planning on moving there myself.

u can stay at this place for 160 a week,at least thats what it used to be like a year ago,  it,s right in the gaslamp, not bad for short term, some people live there for long periods

Under the local bridge seems to be pretty popular here[there is about 30 people living there now] and from what I hear its cheap.

it can definitely be done.  I'm paying $650 for my own place, all utilities included and I live 10 miles from the coast in SoCal.  I used to live a stones throw from the beach splitting a 2 BR for about the same price, but my roomie moved out and every time I tried to get a new one, they kept flaking out after a few months and I got sick of it, so I moved out.  If you want to do it just do it; don't take no for an answer.

My sister just got a place here in Central Cal for
600$ a month with all utilities included. Its very
possible to get a place here. Where I live isn't
the most happiest place on earth but you don't have
to worry about kicking people off your porch every
morning like some places that I've stayed at.

Riverside area you can find some nice housing for about $6-700 in a good neighborhood that is close by to... well everything. If you go a little further out like Moreno Valley (socal still, but not too close to the coast) you can get a condo for like $60,000+ depending on the size.
