Approved for an apartment

i found out yesterday that im approved for a one bedroom apartment.  it'll be my the first time i get to live alone(finally) and im only 24...(haha)

what kind of address changes will i need to take care of?  i was thinking...ID, Car Insurance, Employer, Medical Insurance, Cell Phone Provider, my bank...who else will need to know that i moved?

i haven't actually seen the apartment...i get to see it at the end of this month and then decide if i want it(but im sure i will since it's being re-done)...what kind of things should i check for?  cockroaches?  mice?

any advice?

get the ground or basement level apartment if you can. otherwise you might have an asshole that lives underneath you that complains every time you walk around your own apartment, like i did.

Have all of your old mail forwarded to your house. Go the post office and tell them you want it done. Have proof of living in your old place (i.e. a gas bill or something). This way if you forget to inform someone, it will reach you anyway.

take pics of everything that looks broken or messed up before u move in and keep them in a safe place so that whe the time comes to move out you dont get screwed out of your deposit. best advice i was ever given about renting a place, and trust me it will save your ass cuz it has mine a few times.

Ask the landlord who takes care of maintenance.  Is it just him?  Is it a huge complex?  Can you paint it?  Washers/dryers etc.  There are all sorts of things...

For address changes you can do a lot online nowadays so it takes minimal effort

Also, ask your mail man/woman to give you a change of address form.

You fill the form out and everything gets forwarded to your new address.

Gives you time to change your addresses online without worrying about missing some mail.

how can i prove that i took them before moving in?  wouldn't they just say "you just cleared the place out and then took some pictures"?

i used to sit and hang out with my mom while she watched the home and garden network where they talk about real estate and shit

despite having an unmeasurable hatred for that channel, i learned a few things

might consider having it be professionally inspected for damages

depending on the seriousness of this purchase, and your finances. 

and document EVERYTHING

They usually give you a sheet where you can comment before you move in. When you do your walk through, take a bunch of pictures, and print a copy for the landlord to keep.

I just applied to my 4th place now 3rd place I will be living alone this place is fucked.  Toilet broke, kitchen faucet broke, oven broke, A/C don't work, sliding door to balcony is almost totally of track :shrug:  The new place will be much smaller but also a $160 cheaper too but this time a 1 bedroom instead of a 2.

that sucks.

this place will have new carpet, new fake-wood flooring, newly painted, everything fixed.  it's just a one bedroom one bathroom, 555 sq ft.

i dont think ill ever live with someone ever again unless i move out of state. or if theyre really cool and not stupid. i dont want the cops breaking into my house stealing everything again. every time ive had a roomate, we go from being friends to hating each other. it always ruins friendships. living alone FTW.
