bad credit & apartments
    #5158486 -

just curious - how do people with bad credit or no credit get an apartment? Besides having a co-signer, what else is there?

depeds on the class of apartment you're looking for, if you're shooting for lower
rent they only want to be sure you have the means to pay, upscale rent they want
big deposits on everything, if they have to boot you, they keep the cash

When you go and meet your landlord, clean yourself up real nice. My roomy and I both wore shirts and ties, tucked in, his hair all full of gel and well mine, cant do too much with it. But we looked and acted respectable, and thats what mattered, we are both young and have very little credit as of now, but we got the place:sun:

My roomates and I had basically no credit when we rented our current apartment (we're all undergrads). We had to put up a month's rent as a deposit, along with approximately another half-month of rent as a "cleaning deposit". We get the month's rent back if we pay every month until the conclusion of the lease, and we get the cleaning deposit back about a month after that.

It's kind of a pain (we live in a city, so monthly rent is NOT cheap) but at least we got the appartment.

My landlady never checked my credit, which is indeed a good thing. Of course, I'm in a small town and it just so happened that my step-dad had met her before at a conference, so my case was a bit unusual.

I currently have bad credit and the place I'm living in now didnt do a check. But now, I am looking for somewhere else to live. I guess my options are to find a landlord that doesnt check or somehow work out an arrangement based on the fact that my financial situation is good although my credit looks bad for the time being.

we'll see...

yep....99% of the time, if you have the money, the landlord wont give a flying fuck about credit.....offer up more deposit if you can swing it....that will get almost anyone to overlook poor credit......

well i don't know about bad credit, mainly, depending on where you are looking, as long as you have the means to pay everything will be fiine, and oftens times you can even fake the numbers you write down you know.

Furthermore, my girlfriends dad, a realitor for the past I don't know 20-30 yrs, and he daid if you have no credit at all, as I didnt' when I moved out that it is better than bad credit. He said the most important part was the means to pay.... afterall, its all about the money.

Back when I had bad credit, I never had no problems in moving into another place. Even though my credit was bad, I was never late with my rent or had any complaints from neighbors at the previous places that I lived at.

They did run a credit check on me and was aware of my credit problems (hospital bills), but the fact that I had been a good tenent in the previous place that I lived and allways paid my rent on time meant more to them than my credit report.
