Those are not ladybugs, they are the invasive, pesky Japanese Beetles.

They look at little alike, but are very different.

billions and billions of bean beetles, they flock in swarms blacking the skies, i think the farmers brought them to the states

They are ladybugs, Japanese beetles don't swarm.

Here is some red Tubaria punicea that was found in Soquel Demonstration Forest this Sunday by martystu.  It's a rare species.

I thought this was Craterellus when it was found it but now I am not so sure.  (location: Soquel demo forest)

Its weird to see something like this growing off of wood, but all of these that were found were growing off wood.

G. infula is the same one on Alans poster I think we were looking at and pondering.

thats not the same bug people are talking about, theres a "mexican bean beetle", someone was just confused on the name.

they are similar in appearance but those definitely werent bean beetles.

I love that part of the country. Sooo very pretty.
That day we found so many cool mushrooms
and herbs. I see the lady bug pictures came out
really nice. Lets see that one gelatinosum that
CptnGarden found with its own little piece of

There is a lot of Lithocarpus densiflorus, that is the tree that the black chanterelles grow with.  Interestingly that is the only Oak out here that is not in the genus Quercus. 

I also saw quite a bit of Pseudotsuga menziesii and Sequoia sempervirens!
