I live in Nor Cal as well. I've posted many many pictures of what I've found over the past 6 months here in the hunting forum.

Winter is definetly the time to find the most amounts of mushrooms, species and quantity-wise.

Anyways, spring will bring mushrooms up pretty much everywhere. Id say look through the forest, under trees, openings to medows, grasses, woodchips.

Areas where moisture and fog will be present, and usually stays pretty moist are good places as well.

I dont know if you are just looking for mushrooms, edibles, or hallucinogens, but, your best bet is edibles right now.

you should really consider hunting edible mushrooms aswell. it is rewarding and will give you a clearer understanding of identification in general, as you will come across a greater cross-section of fungi.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.
