Why atomic orange juice didn't work ?

Hi. First of all, I wanna thank you all for all the information I got from the forum. This kind of research let me harvest much more than mushrooms.

I'm a newbie. I've successfully inoculated 5 jars (0% infection) with the Psylocybe cubensis strain. The jars are full colonyzed as you can see in this photo.



I've read that I can consume the mycelium with orange juice, avoiding the fruiting cycle. So, I opened a jar (it was a very consistent - white sponge), cracked the mycelium, and left it in orange juice for 20 minutes. Then, I filtered the juice with a piece of cloth and put it into another glass recipient.

I drank the ''special'' orange juice, turned the music on and waited paciently. I knew that I'd have to wait aproximately 20 minutes to experiment some improvement, but an hour passed and nothing happened tilll now.

Now I'm making the place where mycelium could born and fruit.

I'd like to know where I went wrong.

Mycelium contains very little psilocybin / psilocin before it fruits.

Thank you,  darkfly. So if I don't fruit the cake, the mycelim wouldn't have enought psylocin even to trip to the swimming pool.  :grin:

You can only do that once the cake cannot produce anymore fruits.

Maybe i'm wrong, but I don't even think you can do this with orange juice. The conventional method is to use 100% cranberry juice.

"Mushroom Juice: Put several spoonfuls of frozen juice concentrate into a blender. Dole's Orange-Pineapple-Banana works especially well but regular Orange Juice or Lemon Aid will work. Add a bit of water, but keep the resulting juice on the strong side. Throw in a few ice cubes and your shrooms (fresh or dry) and whiz on high for a minute or so. Let it sit for a few minutes after you turn off the blender, then drink."

Cakes do not get much goodies in em till after they fruit.

Ive taken 4 fresh cakes at once and had a mild expierence. I ate the substrate from a spent casng(ya i actually have done a casing not all dunked cakes) and had a mild expierence.

I heard if you eat nothing but grains before consuming completely colonized
cakes, you can save your shit and it will colonize and fruit! (JK)

Seriously, have some patience... Patience is KEY to this hobby. Those that
are just looking to "get high" should stick to buying their mind altering
substances (no offense intended).

Stick with your project, let it happen, learn from your mistakes, and
success will eventually be yours. Before you know it, you will have
more mushrooms and mycelium on hand than you will know what to
do with!

There is no research that proves that orange juice or cranberry juice (Vitamin C) enhances a trip. What it causes is the placebo effect ; you think it is going to enhance your trip and so you think it actually is.

But there is nothing wrong with OJ or watever. If your thirsty then drink watever the hell u want.

Nobody was suggesting anything about vitamin C dingbat.  :shocked: Do a search on extracting active alkaloids from mycelium, you will see.

I believe it is the citric? acid that extracts the psilocybin..

fefu... I don't think 20 minutes is long enough...next time try letting it soak for 24 hours just to be safe. And do it after the cake is done producing mushrooms... else you are just wasting a perfectly good fruiting cake.

If you want to extract anything, blend the mcyeliuim, add water(or juice) and then either blend or shake the hell out of it, let sit and shake several times over a period of 20 minutes.
