Bottom Casing Layer??

Okay, so my friend is doing a 50/50+ casing...

I've read that you can use a bottom casing layer of damp vermiculite, perlite, or no bottom casing layer at all. Which works best? Does anyone have any suggestions??

There is no best answer to this question. It is a matter of personal preference. I don't use a bottom casing layer because it is just more work which does nothing to improve my yields.

if your substrate is on the dry side a bottom casing layer can help provide more moisture, giving larger flushes.
